Yellowstone is the beloved modern western that will soon be premiering season four on the Paramount Network. That hasn’t stopped fans from finding fault with it, with one noting a particular inconsistency surrounding the Dutton family ranch. Now, many Paramount viewers are questioning the general lack of security on the land.
Why doesn’t the Dutton’s home have security?
Yellowstone is known for many things, beloved characters, the gripping story and emotional moments.
However, it is equally known for the intense action, as when the guns come out it often leads to devastating consequences.
Over the course of the first three seasons, the action hasn’t slowed down and if the season three finale is anything to go by, it is only becoming a more regular occurrence.
By the time season three comes to a close, John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) has been shot and his daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly) has been caught in the middle of a bomb attack.
John’s son Kayce’s life also hangs in the balance after being ambushed in his office but gun-wielding hitmen.
The Duttons have formed a lot of enemies over the years and it is nothing new for the family, with John’s eldest son Lee (Dave Annable) dying in the season one pilot over a cattle dispute.
This has all led to fans questioning why the Dutton family hasn’t invested in better security – after all, they clearly have the money to do so.
On Reddit, one fan noted a particularly powerful flashback during season two, when John was looking after his father, John Dutton Sr (Dabney Coleman).
It took place during a family crisis, another point in the Dutton family’s storied history of conflict and sacrifice.
Noting the impact the moment had on John, it led to one fan questioning why he never invested in more modern security over the years.
The fan wrote: “All these multimillion-dollar homes, and nobody locks their doors or has security system armed.”
“Meanwhile they need a battering ram to get into the dump where Tate [Brecken Merrill] is being held.”
The fan is referring to the season two finale when Tate was captured by the Becks.
Tate’s dad Kayce had to force his way into the home before shooting the two brothers.
The home had a steel-reinforced door, something the Dutton family home doesn’t have anything comparable to.
Another fan replied: “What promising local militia doesn’t have a steel-reinforced front door for when the alphabet boys show up? Such a shame.”
It looks like the Duttons prefer to deal with their problems head-on, rather than hiring security or putting in place security systems.
Perhaps after the attack on the Duttons from the end of season three, they will decide to invest in better home protection.
For now, viewers will have to wait and see when the new season premieres on November 7.
There is no doubt there will be more action to come, with the culprit behind the attack still unknown.
There are two leading theories on who could have done it, one being season three’s antagonist Roarke (Josh Holloway), who is back again.
The other being Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) who has slowly been moving away from the family since discovering he was adopted in the third run.
Yellowstone season four will premiere on November 7 on the Paramount Network in the USA. The UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
