The X Factor: Celebrity viewers were left in tears after watching Martin Bashir’s emotional tribute to his late brother, Tommy.
The infamous journalist took to the stage during tonight’s launch, where he belted out his rendition of Nat King Cole’s L-O-V-E.
And after the judges revealed how surprised they were by his secret singing voice, the star confessed his reasoning behind going on the show.
‘The real reason why I’m here,’ the 56-year-old said: ‘I’m one of five children and my precious brother Tommy was born with muscular dystrophy.’
He continued: ‘When you grow up with a child and you fight over toys and you’re aged four and he never fights back and then by the time he is 13, he can’t feed himself, you feel you have no excuse for turning down opportunities.’
Pausing for a moment, the father-of-three added: ‘Tommy died in 1991.
‘Every time I faced a challenge I heard him whispering saying, “What excuse do you have? You have no excuse. You have never sung, but someone has come to you and said, “Give it a shot”.’
He smiled: ‘And that’s my motivation.’
Nicole Scherzinger was clearly moved by his words as she added: ‘You’re so loveable thank you.’
While Simon Cowell poured out his heart to the contestant.
‘It’s not always about the best singer,’ the music mogul confessed: ‘For me, it’s about the person and the story and how we related to your story, it meant a lot.’
Walking off the stage, Martin told Dermot O’Leary: ‘It’s hard to talk about those things though, I’m weeping, but it’s true – you have no excuse.’
The X Factor: Celebrity continues next Saturday on ITV.
