Will Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Be in ‘Thor 4:’ Inside the Cast of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder?’

When it comes to Marvel announcements, nothing beats the annual San Diego Comic-Con. Though Marvel enthusiasts have been theorizing about Phase 4 for months leading up to the event – and several presumptions turned out to be true – Comic-Con (con)firmed and revealed additional information regarding several projects rumored to be in the works. Disney+’s Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor: Love and Thunder were two of the several significant announcements.

From Black Widow – which will feature David Harbour as the Soviet counterpart to Captain America – to Thor: Love and Thunder, which will see the return of Natalie Portman, Marvel came to Comic-Con, locked and loaded with exciting news for Phase Four.

While Comic-Con confirmed Natalie Portman’s return, as well as Tessa Thompson’s, many fans are wondering if the God of Thunder’s mischievous brother will return to the Thor saga. Loki may be prepped to receive his own Disney+ series; however, a return to the cinematic world would send Marvel fans into a tizzy. The question is: can Loki return? Given the fallout of events in Infinity War and Endgame, would Loki’s return be narratively feasible?

How Loki could return in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

First, let’s get one thing straight: Loki died. Dead. Kaput. Ceased to exist. No longer breathing. Heart stopped beating kind of dead. While he is the master of mischief and quite the illusionist at that, he didn’t pull a swift one on Thanos and all of the Avengers, nor will some magic potion bring him back. So, how could he return without destroying the timeline and the future of the MCU?

As Screen Rant explains, Loki finally accepted his true place among the Asgardians in Infinity War; he put the future of mankind before his own selfish desires, choosing heroism over egotism and power. Meaning, he may have earned his place in Valhalla – a majestic after-life locale reserved for those who die in glorious combat protecting Asgard. While Loki’s death may not align with “glorious death,” his personal sacrifice should warrant a place among his since-departed people.

Remember: Loki tells Thor, “the sun will shine us again” before dying, which seems like an obvious hint. And, if Loki did travel to Valhalla, Thor 4 may present the God of Thunder with an opportunity to resurrect his people from there, lending way to a narrative rescue mission existing at the core of the upcoming installment.

While Thor’s return is possible, information concerning the plotline of the upcoming movie remains scarce; thus, fans are left to their own imaginations to prophecize based on two words alone: Love and Thunder. As for the first word, we know Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will play a significant role (becoming the Goddess of Thunder). As for Thunder, well, that’s Thor in one word, so finding clues within the term seems a bit of a stretch.

What if Chris Hemsworth’s Thor appears in the Disney+ Loki series?

Given that Loki will be an entire Disney+ series, Chris Hemsworth’s appearance seems quite likely. Does the show plan to write an entire narrative – several episodes or seasons long – without accounting for the protagonist’s (if we can call him that) famous brother? Such a decision seems risky, as fans would expect a cameo, at the least.

While fans wait to discover if Thor and Loki will team up – becoming the brothers in arms they were always destined to be – here’s to hoping that we see Hiddleston and Hemsworth grace the screen as the brothers bearing a conflicted dynamic once more.
