Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) claimed that his ex-wife Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) was dead – and so it came as a real shock when she arrived at Coronation Street very much alive in July and revealed who she really was.
However, mere days after her appearance on the cobbles, Elaine was cornered in a dark alley by Geoff. He returned to the street, and disposed of Elaine’s mobile’s sim card — suggesting that he’s done something sinister to her.
Worry not, as Elaine is alive and well, and is set to play a vital role in Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) defence case this week – and viewers are hoping Geoff will finally get his comeuppance for abusing Yasmeen.
But who plays Elaine in Coronation Street, and what else has the actress starred in?
Who plays Elaine in Coronation Street?
Elaine is played by actress Paula Wilcox.
A TV insider told The Sun: ‘If Yasmeen pursues the defence that she snapped after endless cruelty at the hands of Geoff, then Elaine’s testimony could prove invaluable.
‘But as this is Corrie it won’t be plain sailing, there’ll be quite a few twists and turns along the way.
‘Paula is only making a guest appearance for a few weeks but it’s a role she’ll relish sinking her teeth into.
‘After all she’ll play a pivotal part in a storyline that’s had the nation gripped.’
Where have you seen Paula Wilcox before?
The Manchester-born actress has been a familiar face on TV over the past few decades, appearing in the likes of The Liver Birds, Man About The House, The Queen’s Nose, The Smoking Room and Rock & Chips.
More recently you might also have seen her in Sky One’s Mount Pleasant, in which she plays Pauline, and as Mary Shakespeare in the comedy series Upstart Crow.
The 70-year-old is no stranger to soaps either, having played HIlary Potts in Emmerdale between 2007-2008.
And this isn’t her first brush with Corrie either – as she appeared in five episodes back in 1969 as Ray Langton’s sister Janice.
Coronation Street continues on ITV tonight at 7.30pm.
