Screening live, the 19th annual event recognising achievement in Australian live performance will be hosted from Melbourne's Arts Centre by Susie Youssef and Mitchell Butel. Spanning a broad spectrum, the awards cover comedy, cabaret, ballet, dance and physical theatre, musicals, contemporary music and theatre.

As well, there are categories for Best Contemporary Music Festival and Regional Touring. Nominees include Hannah Gadsby (for Douglas), Anne Edmonds (What's Wrong With You?), Kylie Minogue (Golden Tour), Tim Minchin (Back), Paul Kelly (Making Gravy) and Opera Australia (West Side Story). Singer-songwriter Kev Carmody will receive the industry's highest accolade, the JC Williamson Award. Guest presenters include Paul Kelly, Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall, and there will be performances from Electric Fields, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Silvie Paladino and the kids from School of Rock.
