This Morning's Holly and Phil fail to mention Eamonn and Ruth’s final day but Alison Hammond praises them

HOLLY Willoughby and Phillip Schofield failed to give their Friday This Morning hosts a mention on their final day.

The presenters kept silent on social media as Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford signed off after an impressive 15-year stint.

But their replacement, Alison Hammond, praised the veteran TV couple on Twitter, describing them as "a class above the rest."

It follows a strained relationship between Ruth and Phil, which led to a VERY awkward hug during an acceptance speech for Best Live Magazine Show in January.

Back in 2019 The Sun revealed that Ruth Langsford has made an official complaint against Schofield while eight other ITV presenters have spoken to us about what they describe as a “toxic” environment at This Morning.

Ruth's complaint follows an incident in April 2019 which saw Phillip rudely interrupt her while she was presenting a preview of Loose Women during an episode of This Morning.

In the clip, the presenters clash after Phil rudely cuts a Loose Women segment short, with Ruth slamming her pen down in fury.

Holly and Phil finished their final show of 2020 yesterday.

When they return in the New Year, Eamonn and Ruth will no longer be presenting the show every Friday.

Instead, Alison will co-host alongside X Factor's Dermot O'Leary with their new regular slot.

Eamonn couldn't help but mention the axe while presenting today's last show, before returning in February to fill in during the half-term break.

The 61-year-old star said ITV bosses were "getting rid of us" as he compared himself to a cut-price Christmas tree.

He told Ruth: "Do you know what I saw yesterday? Outside the opticians was a man selling Christmas trees, discounting them by half price."

His wife, 60, replied: "They're struggling to get rid of them, I suppose."

Eamonn told her: "I would say so, darling. That's the obvious conclusion. Which is why they're getting rid of us on a Friday now – after all this sort of chat."

She chided him: "Oh stop it" before continuing with the rest of the show, which is their last before being forced to step down.
