The Chase viewers were distracted by a player who made a surprising sport confession.

Fans of the long-running ITV gameshow tuned into Wednesday's edition (April 26), once again presented by host Bradley Walsh.

Primary School Teacher Maria, 48, Guest Experience Host Rebecca, 26, and 35-year-old learning and development consultant Safwaan from Bolton tried their luck on the show.

But it was 63-year-old black cab driver Stan from London who had viewers wagging their tongues but also in uproar.

The team were up against formidable competition as veteran quizzer and former barrister Shaun Wallace, 62, took to his high podium position.

When Stan was welcomed forward by Bradley Walsh, initially viewers warmed to the taxi motorist.

One fan tweeted: "He's a good example of good looking bald man."

Whilst another said: "What a nice bloke, most black cabbies are.

However, viewers were soon disappointed after he declared that he was a fan of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

One said: "Don't mention spurs #thechase."

A second wrote: "Spurs Fan, Yeah he's winning nothing."

Meanwhile, another commented: "Oh dear. I liked Stan up till then."

Meanwhile, a fourth penned: "When Stan mentioned spurs his rating went down."

And a fifth asked: "Spurs fan and no Minus 6 offer?"

In the end Safwaan was knocked out in his cash-builder segment whilst Stan, Maria and Rebecca made it through to the final chase.

Although they scored a considerable 16 points in the last round, they failed to push the chaser back to loose out on their £11,000 prize pot

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 at 5pm
