'The Bachelorette': How Michelle Young Sent Home 2 Villains

This week’s episode of The Bachelorette was quite surprising for a number of reasons. The biggest one being that Michelle Young sent home two villains. As any fan of the franchise knows, the villains typically stick around the house way past when anyone still wants them there. So, why was Michelle allowed to send two pot stirrers home?

This week, Michelle sent home drama starters Jamie Skaar and Peter Izzo, which surprised a lot of fans. Former Bachelor contestant Jacqueline Trumbull went on Us Weekly’s Here for the Right Reasons podcast and discussed how that could have happened.

“I’m very interested in how the producers craft their lead. Because a lot of the leads get a lot of heat and a lot of adulation, I guess, for decisions that aren’t necessarily theirs,” Jacqueline said. “The producers must have allowed [Michelle] to send Jamie and Peter home and I was wondering why they let her send them home, but they certainly would not have let other leads send ‘villains’ home that early.”

She suggested a few reasons why Michelle could have been allowed to make that choice.

“I don’t know if it’s because this group of guys has a lot of potential villains and a lot of drama,” she said. “I don’t know if they’re interested in making her look strong and decisive, I don’t know what it is, but I was glad she sent them home. But I’m also like, ‘OK, well, I wonder why you were allowed to do that.’”

Why haven’t we seen much of Clayton Echard?

In addition to choosing who the lead is allowed to send home, production also heavily edits contestants to get the storyline they desire.

As Clayton Echard is rumored to be the next bachelor, Jacqueline is expecting he will get a great edit.

“They edit the episodes up until the point that they released them, so he’s very clearly going to get a favorable edit,” she said. “And it’s just interesting to see that play out. They’re not looking for an audience reaction and that’s who they choose from. They’re going to make him the bachelor.”

Ultimately, it was time for Peter and Jamie to go. If they had stayed last week after the stunts they pulled, it would have been clear that the producers forced Michelle to keep them.

In a bout of pettiness, Peter threw Will Urena’s jacket, which he had just won, in the pool. When confronted by the other men about it, he told them to mind their own business.

Jamie, on the other hand, had been building up to his villain status since last week. At one point, he complained to producers about the lack of competition on the show and how he felt he was leaps and bounds better than the other men. He also claimed that Michelle was in “spring break mode” which turned him off.

But the last straw came when it was revealed that Jamie had made up the rumor that everyone in the house was upset and felt that Michelle and Joe Coleman may have been dating before coming on the show.

The Bachelorette airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
