Survivor 41 is coming to your screens this fall, according to legendary host Jeff Probst and CBS. After a long filmin delay as a result of COVID-19, the show is back on the docket, but with some changes as well. Probst teased what he called a “dangerous” new season of the game, which will feature a smaller cast than some other seasons, as well as a shorter number of days for the castaways on the season. What’s more, Survivor 41 will see CBS doing away with themed seasons, at least for the time being.
‘Survivor 41’ does away with themes
Survivor 41 is bringing about a new era for the hit CBS show — it will be the first season in recent memory without a theme attached to the title.
Survivor has historically had a theme of some sort for each season, which would usually have something to do with either the filming location, or the types of individuals cast for the season. Ever since the show moved to Fiji, location themes haven’t been as big a focus, given the consistent geography.
However, fans may have become accustomed to a variety of cast-based themes, such as Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers or Winners at War. According to Inside Survivor, CBS is scratching themes from the show.
“According to Inside Survivor sources, season 41 will simply be referred to as Survivor 41, ushering in a new era for the show as it begins its third decade on the air. This means there is no subtitle attached to the season relating to a theme or a location. The number of the season is essentially the title,” reports Martin Holmes.
‘Survivor 41’ will have a smaller cast and fewer days
Survivor 41 is not only ditching a title theme, it’s also making a few small tweaks to the size of the cast and the number of days spent filming. Fans of the show can probably hear Jeff Probst in their head right now, “39 days, 20 people, 1 survivor!”
This time around, the season will have 26 days instead of the typical 39, per Inside Survivor. The publication also reports that the new season will see 18 castaways divided into three tribes. However, it is expected that Survivor 41 will feature the same number of episodes as usual for the show — typically 14.
As of yet, possible twists have not been announced, but given that there is no major theme attached to the season, it may well be that twists could be reduced or possibly even cut out this season. Some fans have expressed frustration over the prevalence of twists every season, especially since Extinction Island was thrown into the mix.
Jeff Probst teases an exciting new season
Despite the number of changes coming to Survivor 41, Jeff Probst says fans can expect just as much excitement and action as always, if not more.
“We are super pumped for Survivor 41,” Jeff Probst announced on the CBS Instagram. “It is a brand new game. Fast-paced, super dangerous, very difficult to win, and absolutely entertaining to watch. Fans are gonna love it.”
Previously, when he announced the show’s filming status on Instagram, Probst said he’s more pumped than ever to be shooting Survivor.
“And I’ve gotta tell you — I can’t remember a time I’ve been this pumped to shoot Survivor and I’ll tell you why. The past year has reminded me — and I hope it’s reminded you — that you gotta live your life like it’s one great big adventure, and Survivor fulfills that.”
