After being fired and rehired, James Gunn is now gearing up to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The Marvel sequel will shoot back-to-back with 2022’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special ahead of its own release in May 2023. The last outing brought in action star Sylvester Stallone, so maybe Gunn has some ideas for other appearances?

In recent years there have been rumours of Star Wars actor Mark Hamill getting a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

Although Gunn has previously said there haven’t been talks with the Luke Skywalker star despite much speculation.

Now during a recent exclusive interview with Star Trek’s very own William Shatner, Express.co.uk asked if he’d be up for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.

The sprightly 90-year-old replied: “Yeah! I’ve guarded the galaxy many times.”

Having the original Star Trek legend cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 would be a fantastic treat for sci-fi fans.

While just imagine if Shatner could share a scene with his Star Wars counterpart Hamill? Make it so James Gunn!

Also during our interview, the James T Kirk star said he’d be up for returning to Star Trek in a future movie.

The 90-year-old, who was promoting his new film Senior Moment, said: “I would be delighted to be a part of Star Trek if it was something worthy.”

Shatner continued: “If they could come up with a way of putting a character I played in a movie where it functioned as a point in the movie [and] made the movie move along, I’d be delighted.”

Asked what he thought about Quentin Tarantino possibly helming a Star Trek movie, he said: “I think it’s glorious. I’ve met with Tarantino more than once. His movies are filled with juice.

“It’s a fresh look at these movies of heroes. I mean he would have blood coming out of your nose!”

While on having the chance to feature in such a movie, the 90-year-old added: “Absolutely, absolutely. He’s wonderful.”

Meanwhile, Shatner teams up with fellow sci-fi legend Christopher Lloyd in their new movie Senior Moment.

On working with Back to the Future’s Doc Brown star, he said: “Imagine being in a car for hours at a time with Christopher Lloyd, quite a character!

“He’s just naturally funny. He’s very grounded, very intelligent.”
