Spoilers: Angry showdown for Mick and Shirley amid sex abuse secret

Things have always been fraught between Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) and his mum Shirley (Linda Henry) given that he holds her responsible for him being placed in care for much of his childhood.

And while the EastEnders characters have rebuilt their relationship, the added revelation that Mick was abused by his carer Katy Lewis when he was 12 only adds to the animosity he feels towards Shirley – especially now that Frankie’s (Rose Ayling-Ellis) arrival in his life has brought everything back to the forefront of his mind.

Mick continues to push his family away and he makes snide remarks to Shirley about her recent decision making.

But as Shirley tires of Mick’s sniping to his relatives she ends up snapping – and saying something which she will later regret.

Shirley tries to talk to Mick at The Vic but he snaps telling her she was never there for him when he needed her. Shirley takes this hard and yells at Mick to not to play the victim.

Following the row, will the fractured relationship between mother and son be broken once and for all?

Or will Shirley’s poor choice of words prompt Mick to hit back with a revelation – he was a victim while he was in care? It’s clear that Shirley already has her suspicions due to Mick’s recent behaviour but will she get to the bottom of this and be there for her son when he needs her most?
