Sarah is triggered by her own illness as Faith is dying in Emmerdale

Sarah’s (Katie Hill) has had a difficult time lately in Emmerdale, what with Noah (Jack Downham) being turned into the police by his own mum for harassment, and then having her birthday completely forgotten. Not forgetting the multitude of health issues she’s been plagued with over the years that are never far from her mind.

So news of Faith’s illness is about to knock her for six in ways no one expects.

Faith came to Sarah’s rescue when she decided to pack up and leave after Noah’s escapades, talking the teen down from feeling unwanted and like she didn’t belong. It’s a testament to their close bond but makes it all the more heart-wrenching that with a terminal cancer diagnosis, her beloved grandmother could be about to leave her too.

The news hits Sarah in a unique way; not only must she begin to face the reality of loss, but it brings up thoughts of her own mortality.

When she was younger, Sarah suffered from a rare genetic disease called Fanconi Anaemia. This led to Sarah receiving a heartbreaking diagnosis of Leukaemia, which required her to have a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

But her troubles didn’t stop there; she went on to develop throat cancer, and later, due to the treatment she received for the cancer affecting her heart, she had to undergo a heart transplant. The trauma still followers her to this day.

Knowing what her great gran is suffering is hitting too close to home for Sarah, who has always been painfully aware at how short her own life might be. The news makes her reflective, as well as believing that now Faith might leave her too.

With Sarah already being fragile and lonely, will this news tip her over the edge?
