Rachel Riley accompanied Nick Hewer and Susie Dent for today’s edition of Countdown. Within moments of the popular Channel 4 starting, Nick spoke about bizarre food pairings and the mathematician revealed a close friend of hers – Strictly Come Dancing’s Janette Manrara – had one of her own.
“Some tastes are very bizarre, I read an article recently where people were exchanging little antidotes about their most bizarre food choices,” Nick started.
“I’m going to read the first part – they’re a mixture of two ingredients – and you can tell me what you would least like to eat with it.
“For instance, the first one, we’re kicking off with a chicken.
“What would you least likely to eat with a chicken?” He asked.
“Custard!” Rachel replied and the host remarked: “No. Well yes, that’s good. What about a banana?”
“Did you know Janette Manrara – one of the Strictly dancers likes banana and chicken,” Rachel revealed.
“She likes banana with everything I think!”
“Well, maybe she got involved!” Nick joked and Rachel added: “Maybe she did answer it!”
He then moved onto the next food pairing: “Here’s another one; Halloumi accompanied by…”
After struggling for a few seconds, Rachel said: “Marmite?”
“Orange!” Nick exclaimed and the brain box replied: “Ew, no.”
Fans of Rachel will remember her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2013.

I rarely mention #Strictly but today I’m sharing one of my favourite dance memories with my gorgeous @pashakovalev to support @AlzheimersResearchUK and celebrate 10 years of Just Dance. The waltz was my absolute favourite, 2 1/2 weeks to learn the first dance was a much more enjoyable experience than the 2 1/2 days for each of the rest!!! Share your best dance memory or tag your favourite dance partner below and @UbisoftUK will donate £1, up to £30k, for every comment. Together, we can help protect the memories dancing creates. #JustDanceMemories #SCD #waltz

She was partnered with Pasha Kovalev and they were eliminated in week six of the show.
During her time on the nation’s favourite dance competition, Rachel became firm friends with many of the professional dancers – including Janette and her husband Aljaz Skorjanec.
Janette is paired with HRVY this year and together, they are impressing the judges.
Aljaz, on the other hand, is twirling BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo around the dancefloor.
