GENEROUS Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby fixed a special edition of Spin To Win today, to secure an ICU nurse £1,000.

Initially, there was concern that it may not work as they struggled to get through to nurse Anna, but after cutting to a competition segment they were able to make contact after confirming they had the right phone number.

Unlike usual Spin To Win games, Anna did not have to answer with a secret pass-phrase, and was stunned to learn that her fiance Jay had been in cahoots with ITV.

She admitted that her partner had encouraged her to get dressed out of her pyjamas earlier without giving a reason, and shared her shock as he filmed her from their living room onto the live show.

Phil explained: "Anna is an ICU nurse who is directly helping COVID-19 patients.

"On behalf of the entire nation to you, and everyone working for the NHS or in care homes, thank you for being our angels.

"We can't call everyone but you're the one we have called."

He went on to tell viewers that Anna and Jay have been together for eight years, and their wedding has been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – which has claimed over 16,000 lives across the UK.

Phil and Holly then spun the wheel for her, with the jackpot ranging from £500 to a staggering £3000.

The hosts shared their disappointment when it landed on £500, sneakily letting her go one better as they moved the arrow into the next £1,000 segment.

Anna was thrilled by the entire thing, unable to contain her excitement as she gushed: "Thank you so much, that's so kind!"

This is not the first time that This Morning have used Spin To Win to help out NHS workers, with Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes previously fixing the game to ensure a trio of nurses won £3,000.
