Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) are finally heading back to screens as the long awaited sixth season of Outlander continues production. From the set of Starz’ lavish historical romance, the cast and crew have been teasing what could be the darkest chapter yet.
Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have given fans a preview of what’s to come in the highly anticipated sixth season of Outlander.
The series is finally back in production in Scotland after filming was delayed last year by the outbreak of coronavirus.
As restrictions ease across the UK, Balfe and Heughan have finally been able to make their way back to Fraser’s Ridge to begin the next epic chapter of the Outlander saga.
The two co-leads hinted more conflict is on the horizon as the Frasers continue to settle into their new home in North Carolina.
Balfe explained: “Everyone’s starting to find their feet, and some are still struggling.”
“The underlying theme of this season is definitely that there’s a lot more turmoil here,” elaborated Heughan.
Finally, his co-star added: “It’s a very exciting season.”
Season six is expected to pick up right where the previous instalment left off, with Fraser’s Ridge still in a very precarious position.
Jamie’s loyalties will continue to be tested after the pressures of the American Revolution led to the death of his godfather, Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix).
Meanwhile, both Claire and her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) have been hardened after their shared experiences with the despicable pirate, Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers).
With Fraser’s Ridge becoming a larger community with each passing year, the Frasers will come face-to-face with a number of newcomers next season.
Caitriona Balfe confirmed both the fisher-folk and new family the Christies will be playing a major role in the series when Outlander returns.

Heughan then teased: “The Christies are kind of a blast from Jamie’s past, as well.”
The sizzle reel then gave fans a glimpse at Fraser’s Ridge’s newest family, led by Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones).
The new arrivals will introduce even more intrigue and secrets into the series as fans slowly discover more about Tom’s children, Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and Malva (Jessica Reynolds).
Fans were also treated to their first look at some of season six’s idyllic locations in Scotland.
Plus, the behind the scenes footage previewed some of the biggest moments still to come, including a couple of intense brawls in the Ridge’s surrounding forests.
Newcomer Jessica Reynolds also seems to be spending a lot of time with Young Ian (John Bell) in the new footage, potentially hinting at another blossoming relationship.
Sadly, fans still have several months to come before ‘Droughtlander’ comes to an end.
Now production restrictions are finally lifted, however, it’s hoped the series will quickly get started on the confirmed seventh season once its current schedule wraps up.
Outlander seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
