Only Fools and Horses may have gone off air on the BBC many years ago but the legacy and popularity of the hit sitcom lives on through the new musical adaptation. Led by comedy veteran Paul Whitehouse, the actor and the rest of the musical’s cast joined Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond on Friday’s This Morning to show off what theatre-goers can expect. However, as they opened the ITV programme with a rendition of the Only Fools theme song, it’s safe to say many viewers weren’t impressed.
Introducing Paul and the Only Fools musical cast, Dermot said to ITV viewers: “Well to kick start our showbiz Friday, we have an extra special performance for you now.
“It’s 40 years since the iconic sitcom Only Fools and Horses first hit our screens, so to celebrate, Del Boy, Rodney and Grandad have joined us in their three-wheeler outside.”
This Morning’s Alison chipped in: “Yeah, as they prepare to reopen at the Theatre Royale, Haymarket in the West End, today, we’re joined by Paul Whitehouse and the incredible cast from Only Fools and Horses the Musical.
“Take it away!” Alison concluded as the camera then cut to the cast readying themselves to perform outside.
Paul’s Grandad joined Del Boy and Rodney in the car park as they brought the iconic characters back to life along with their typical cockney charm.
However, while the performance may have gone down well with those in the This Morning studio, ITV viewers didn’t quite feel the same.
YouKay took to Twitter to Vent: “They’re absolutely butchering it. My ears #ThisMorning.”
“Not sure only fools works as a musical… Its just not the same without original cast #ThisMorning,” Michelle weighed in. (sic)
Kelly admitted she couldn’t even watch: “I love only fools and horse but I had to switch over at this point #thismorning.”
While Carl echoed: “Can we all agree, when this is eventually over…we never speak of it again….only fools and horses would go and see this s***e #ThisMorning.”
“Only Fools And Horses Musical Is Really Selling Itself.. Sounds like they’ve just got in from the pub. #ThisMorning,” Jaymil harshly critiqued.
Twitter user @CD13 added: “Only fools & horses is a classic, a legend. This however is not, #thismorning.”

And Stephanie concurred: “Some things just aren’t meant to be made into a musical… Only Fools is one #ThisMorning.”
However, there was still some love for the performance, with many enjoying the nostalgic feel of the performance.
“Only fools and horses the musical looks very good @thismorning,” Andrew argued.
While Leanne agreed: “@thismorning Omg I absolutely loved the Only Fools and Horses musical! I really want to go and see it now!” (Sic)
Alison also “loved it” as when the action returned to the studio, she said: “I wanna go and see that now!”
Dermot joked: “You don’t wanna see it, you wanna be in it! All the way through, Alison said, ‘I could be in that.’
“I said, ‘what would you do?’, she said, ’stand at the back like that’,” Dermot added as he began to dance on the sofa.
Alison and Dermot shared a laugh before moving on with the rest of the ITV show.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
