Olivia Colman has recalled the most awkward run in with Prince Williams over The Crown season 3 – and it sounds pretty excruciating.
With less than two weeks to go until Olivia steps into Queen Elizabeth II’s shoes in the third season of Netflix’s The Crown, the Broadchurch actress has got into the swing of royal life as she takes over the iconic role from Claire Foy.
But appearing on The Graham Norton Show, the Oscar winner revealed how a chance encounter with Prince William didn’t go to plan.
Asked if she’d met any royals since playing the part of the Queen, Olivia said: ‘Yes, but it didn’t go very well.
‘I met Prince William at a dinner and he asked what I was doing at the moment before he quickly added, “Actually, I know what you’re doing.”’
Not exactly the words you want to hear from the future King of England.
She continued: ‘I was so excited and asked, “Have you watched it?” His answer was a firm, “No.”‘
Safe to say you’re not a fan of The Crown then, eh Wills?
Though, the 45-year-old assured William was ‘very charming and very lovely.’
Thankfully, not all of Olivia’s exchanges with royalty have been quite as uncomfortable, as the national treasure was awarded her CBE from Her Maj’s daughter, Princess Anne, in October.
Beaming as she met the royal, Olivia looked smart in a grey and tartan coat-dress and black fascinator, chatting to Princess Anne as she received her medal.
Still, surely they missed an opportunity not having the real Queen Elizabeth give her the award?
The Graham Norton Show continues tonight at 10.40pm on BBC One. The Crown season 3 cones to Netflix on November 17.
