On Friday, Andrew Marr confirmed he would be leaving the BBC after 21 years to embark on a new career with Global. The presenter shared the news with his followers on Twitter as he revealed he would be leaving the BBC in the New Year.

In view of his 196,000 followers, Andrew began: “Personal announcement. After 21 years, I have decided to move on from the BBC.

“l leave behind many happy memories and wonderful colleagues.

“But from the New Year, I am moving to Global to write and present political and cultural shows, and to write for newspapers.”

In another tweet, the host continued: “I think British politics and public life are going to go through an even more turbulent decade, and as I’ve said, I am keen to get my own voice back.”

“I have been doing the Andrew Marr show every Sunday morning for 16 years now and that is probably more than enough time for anybody,” he concluded.

Andrew’s followers were quick to reply to the news, with many sending messages of “good luck” to the presenter.

Lewis penned: “What a huge loss to the BBC Andrew but what an incredible contribution over so long. Best of luck with the new gig.”

Tanya said: “Wow, big news indeed. Very shocking to me that you have been there that long – I remember when you started, seems like just yesterday. Good luck at Global.”

While Ed wrote: “Gosh Andrew, that’s big news, a huge loss to the BBC.

“Very best of luck. My recent stint on the Marr show was one of the most rewarding periods of my career and it was working with you. You’ll be missed!” (sic)
