Netflix 2019 has already treated audiences with The Umbrella Academy and Sex Education and there’s plenty more in the pipeline with The Crown season three, Black Mirror season five and Stranger Things season three. Last year was more of a quiet one for Netflix as some of its big hitters were in production but it’s going to be a big one this year. From January to December 2019, we’ve put together as complete and as comprehensive a list as we can of Netflix releases. The shows listed below have officially been renewed by Netflix or the network that makes the series. We will be updating this article as more release dates are announced by Netflix.

Many of the shows have yet to get an exact date, so we’ve placed them according to when the previous season was released.

NETFLIX JANUARY 2019

A Series of Unfortunate Events season 3 – January 1

Kicking off the new year in style will be the final instalment of the Lemony Snicket series from Neil Patrick Harris, who plays the dastardly Count Olaf in this TV adaptation.

Friends from College season 2 – January 11

Friends from College made its return in the new year but sadly it will be the last outing after Netflix decided to cancel the show.

Titans – January 11

The highly anticipated DC Comics show has its Netflix debut with Batman’s sidekick Robin leading a team of superheroes.

Sex Education – January 11

Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield star in this coming-of-age series about teen sexuality.

Sex Education has since been recommissioned for a season two, so prepare for more hilarious comedy.

The Good Place season 3 – January 11

The Good Place season three will resume as fans find out what will happen next in the supernatural comedy.

Season four of The Good Place has got the green light from NBC, so fans can rejoice.

Riverdale season 3 – January 17

Riverdale season three returns weekly after its midseason hiatus over the Christmas period as Archie Andrews and co. do battle with the Gargoyle King.

Season four has been commissioned and is expected to be airing in October 2019.

The Punisher season 2 – January 18

The Marvel superhero series is still awaiting an exact date, but it will be released in January.

Apart from Jessica Jones and The Punisher, it looks like most of Marvel’s Netflix shows have been axed.

Grace and Frankie season 5 – January 18

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will be back for more comedy from the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated series. 

The show has also been recommissioned for a season six, so expect the pair to be back in 2020.

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 – January 18

Star Trek Discover season two will be airing on a weekly basis as the crew meet Mr Spock and embark on new adventures.

Episodes will air weekly on Netflix after airing on CBS in America first. 

Season three of Star Trek: Discovery is going ahead now on the back of the success of the second outing. 

Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes – January 24

For fans of Netflix’s true crimes shows, this real-life docu-series will give some shocking insights into the mind of serial killer Ted Bundy

Medici: The Magnificent – January 25

Historical drama Medici: The Magnificent returns for season two with a brand new cast as the show picks up years after the events of the first outing.

Club de Cuervos season 4 – January 25

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 4 part 2 – January 25

The final instalment of the uplifting comedy will be coming to an end as we finish Kimmy’s story.

However, we’re going to be getting an interactive episode as Netflix moves into new territory.

Suits season 8, Part B – January 31

Suits made a comeback with the second half of season eight and aired on weekly on Netflix every Thursday.

The USA Network has revealed season nine will be the final series of the legal drama.

NETFLIX FEBRUARY 2019

Nightflyers – February 1

George RR Martin’s highly-awaited sci-fi show is finally set to be landing after wrapping up its broadcast on Syfy in the US.

Sadly, the show won’t be getting a second series after Nightflyers was cancelled by Syfy.

Russian Doll – February 1

Brand new comedy Russian Doll will see a woman trapped in a Groundhog Day-esque situation as she keeps dying when she tries to leave a house party. 

Siempre bruja – February 1

Dirty John – February 14

Dirty John is a brand new true-crime drama series that is set to shock audiences when it drops. The series looks at how a romance with John Meehan went very, very wrong.

The Umbrella Academy – February 15

The Umbrella Academy is hitting Netflix with a bang as a new set of superheroes try to stop the end of days.

Season two of The Umbrella Academy has now been confirmed by Netflix after much speculation.

Suburra: Season 2 – February 22

Following on from the success of Gomorrah comes the new series of Italian drama Suburra.

Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments: Season 3B – February 26

Season three is the last one for Shadowhunters, despite a valiant effort to save the series. The back half of season three is expected to air in the US on Freeform on February 25, which could mean February 26 on Netflix UK. Episodes will be airing on a weekly basis.

NETFLIX MARCH 2019

The Order – March 7

The teen drama focuses on a school where youngsters are trained to fight the forces of evil and appears to follow on from the success of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Season two of The Order has been given the go-ahead and we can expect more supernatural teen shenanigans.

Shadow – March 8

Set in South Africa, the show follows a police officer who becomes a vigilante after he’s struck by lightning which leaves him without the ability to feel pain. 

Immortals season 2 – March 8

Turkish supernatural drama Immortals sees one woman taking revenge on the man who turned her into a vampire. 

The action is set against the backdrop of an impending war against vampires and humans, naturally.

After Life – March 8

Ricky Gervais does a bittersweet new comedy series about a man dealing with the grief of losing his wife. 

Netflix has now renewed After Life for a second season with Gervais saying: “I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”

Queer Eye season 3 – March 15

Expect more makeover as the Fab Five head to Kansas City in Missouri to transform lives. There’s also going to be a Japan special.

Turn Up Charlie – March 15

Idris Elba makes a foray into comedy as a DJ trying to revive his career while working as a nanny for his friends and minding their precocious daughter. 

Season two is also in the works with the show expected to return next year.

Arrested Development: Season 5B – March 15

Arrested Development season 5B will be finally airing after the first half hit Netflix earlier this year.  

The OA season 2 – March 22

Netflix has now confirmed the return of The OA with more chapters as the story picks up from the first run.

Fans are still waiting to hear if we will get a third outing.

Santa Clarita Diet season 3 – March 29

Santa Clarita Diet season three will see more of the same as the zombie-comedy with Drew Barrymore takes another twist.

Sadly, Santa Clarita Diet has now been cancelled by Netflix despite a passionate campaign by fans.

Jane The Virgin season 5 – March 28

Jane The Virgin season five will be the last for the comedy-drama and as yet Netflix hasn’t announced a release date but The CW has suggested it will be early 2019.

The CW will be premiering the final season n March 27 in the US and drops for UK viewers on Netflix the next day.

On My Block season 2 – March 29

On My Block season two recently got the green light from Netflix before dropping on the platform this year.

Fans got more of the same from the coming-of-age show.

On My Block season three is now officially happening after getting the green light from Netflix.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2 – April 5

Praise Satan! Expect more magical mischief as Sabrina adjusts to becoming a witch after signing her name in the book of the Dark Lord.

Season three has already been confirmed, so fans won’t have to wait long for the next instalment.

Our Planet – April 5

Sir David Attenborough and his team have joined forces with Netflix to bring a new nature programme as awe-inspiring as Planet Earth. Expect to be blown away from the magnificence of our natural world. 

Quicksand – April 5

The drama follows a girl put on trial for murdering her fellow students during a school shooting.

Tijuana – April 5

Roman Empire: Caligula: The Mad Emperor – April 5

The documentary series narrated by Game of Thrones star Sean Bean continues. This time the focus is on Caligula, who is thought to have been George RR Martin’s inspiration for Joffrey Baratheon. 

You vs. Wild – April 10

Following on the from the success of Black Mirror Bandersnatch, prepare for a new interactive series in which you decide what happens to Bear Grylls.  

Black Summer – April 11

A prequel set in the Z Nation universe will see a group of survivors fighting it out in the zombie apocalypse.

Samantha!: Season 2 – April 19

Undercover – May 3

Drug drama Undercover is likely to appeal to fans of Narcos as two police officers try to take down a drug lord on the Dutch-Belgian border.

Flinch – May 3

Netflix is launching a brand new game show which is likely to put contestants to the test by placing them in some of the most awkward and uncomfortable situations and see how they react. 

Dead to Me – May 3

Dark comedy Dead to Me will see a pair of widows forming a friendship at a bereavement support group. But little do they know that dark secrets about the respective spouses’ deaths are going to come out.

Tuca & Bertie – May 3

From the makers of BoJack Horseman comes this brand new adult animated comedy about a toucan and a songbird in their thirties trying to live their best lives.

Lucifer season 4 – May 8

Lucifer was saved by Netflix last year after it was cancelled by FOX. All episodes of the new series will be dropped in one go. 

Fans are awaiting news of Lucifer season five which has yet to be confirmed.

The Society – May 10

This dark teen drama images a group of youngsters mysteriously transported to a version of their town without their parents present. Imagine a modern-day re-telling of Lord of the Flies but with a glossy makeover. 

Easy season 3 – May 10

The Mechanism: Season 2 – May 10

Brazilian crime drama The Mechanism will be returning for another outing as the investigators take on more corrupt political officials.

The Rain season 2 – May 17

Danish drama The Rain is returning as the group of survivors tries to save the world from human extinction. 

WHAT / IF – May 24

With Bridget Jones’s Diary star Renée Zellweger taking the lead, this series focuses on the morally dubious grey area of upstanding members of the public doing ambiguous things. 

Bad Blood season 2 – May 31

Expect more gritty drama from the organised crime series set in Canada.

Good Girls: Season 2 – May 31

Black Spot: Season 2 – May 31

When They See Us – May 31

A hard-hitting drama based on the case of the Central Park Five has been dramatised by Oscar-nominated director Ava DuVernay. The show features an all-star cast including Michael K. Williams and Vera Farmiga.

The Alienist season 2 – TBC

The Alienist season two got the go-ahead from US network TNT over the summer with a second gritty crime set to be investigated in Victorian New York. 

Those in North America will be able to watch the show first before it drops on Netflix in one go for audiences to consume.

NETFLIX JUNE 2019

Black Mirror season 5 – June 5

Black Mirror season five is going to be hitting Netflix very soon with three new episodes.

Season five was announced back in March 2018 with production taking place on a potential 12 new episodes.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch dropped on December 28 as fans waited for the new series.

Dark season 2 – June 2

The German sci-fi series will be making a comeback after over a year off screens. Prepare for more time travelling through caves and apocalyptic doom.

13 Reasons Why season 3 – TBC

13 Reasons Why season three will see more teen drama and hard-hitting issues tackled in the third outing.

Netflix has yet to share a release date but it’s confirmed it will be out in the latter half of 2019.

Lost In Space season 2 – TBC

Netflix’s re-imagining of the classic TV series will see the Robinson family thrown into further peril with a brand new adventure.

Money Heist: Part 3 (La Casa Del Papal) – TBC

La Casa Del Papal or Money Heist is considered to be one of the jewels in the crown of Netflix’s international content. The show’s Spanish title literally translates to “The House of Paper” and has proved to be a global success.

Netflix hasn’t shared a release date as yet, which means it could be out later in the year. However, the streaming platform has confirmed the show will be out at the end of the year.

Jessica Jones season 3 – TBC

Jessica Jones season three doesn’t have a release date as yet but last year it was released on March 8 to coincide with International Women’s Day.

The Marvel series is set to be ending on season three after Netflix announced it had cancelled Jessica Jones.

NETFLIX JULY 2019

Stranger Things season 3 – July 4

Stranger Things season three is coming this summer, just like the first run. Americans will be able to binge it over the 4th July weekend when it drops. 

Orange Is The New Black season 7 – TBC

Slated to be the final series of the hit female prison dramedy, Orange Is The New Black is expected to be dropping in summer 2019 for one last series.  

Suits season 9 – July 17

Suits season nine has got the green light and is likely to be coming out in line with US broadcast. 

Sadly, this will be the last series of Suits of the legal drama with the USA Network confirming the news earlier in 2019.

Sacred Games season 2 – TBC

Netflix’s first Indian Original series was a huge hit and the second season will see Sartaj Singh continuing his mission to save Mumbai from a terror attack.

Anne with an E: Season 3 – TBC

Anne with an E season three will bring more uplifting joy to fans as the irrepressible orphan embarks on new adventures and lands herself in more trouble.

Final Space season 2 – TBC

NETFLIX AUGUST 2019

Mindhunter season 2 – TBC

The intriguing serial killer drama from the mind of Joe Penhall has wrapped up filming now and will be back in 2019.

There’s no release date but it’s been revealed the compelling serial killer series will be returning in August.

Insatiable season 2 – TBC

Insatiable attracted quite a lot of controversy when it came out but could season two redeem itself and fix the mistakes of the first run?

Better Call Saul season 5 – TBC

Better Call Saul season five will be airing on a weekly basis for those outside of the US after being broadcast on AMC. Season five of the Breaking Bad prequel will see tensions rising between the eponymous anti-hero and his girlfriend Kim.

Power season 6 – TBC

The 50 Cent-produced TV show is set to be making a comeback after finishing on a shocking cliffhanger. 

The new series will be airing on a weekly basis with episodes first dropping on Starz before hitting Netflix for those outside the US.

Sadly, this is going to be the last series of Power with possible spin-offs in the works.

NETFLIX DECEMBER 2019

The Crown season 3 – TBC

Season three and four of The Crown are reportedly being made back-to-back at the moment. It seems highly likely The Crown season three will be gracing Netflix at the end of the year.

Netflix has now confirmed the new series will be released in the second half of the year and after July 1 but we’re still waiting for a date.

The Dark Crystal – TBC

The Dark Crystal is getting a remake into a TV series, we’ve yet to get an airdate but it will be coming in 2019.

You season 2 – TBC

You has moved to Netflix from US network Lifetime with work taking place on the new series. 

The first season dropped on Boxing Day 2018 and proved to be a compelling, binge-worthy watch.

There’s no release date as such but the show could be back in December, if not earlier depending on the production schedule.
