Spanish star Itziar Ituño has opened up about her wish to revive Money Heist for a sixth season, despite Netflix confirming the series would come to an end with Part Five. The international hit is due back on screens next year, but will that be the last we see of the Professor and his team?

The cast of Netflix’s Spanish phenomenon Money Heist are hard at work shooting the final season of the explosive international thriller.

Álex Pina’s momentous crime series originally aired on Spanish network Antena 3, but was revived by the streaming platform where it became a hit with overseas audiences.

Netflix have now confirmed the show will come to an end with an extended fifth instalment, set to drop all at once sometime next year.

Part Five will finally wrap up the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) and his team’s impossible robbery from inside the Bank of Spain.

However, the show’s fans and cast members alike will be saddened to see one of Netflix’s most popular franchises come to an end.

Among them is series regular Itziar Ituño, who has been a Money Heist mainstay as Inspector Raquel Murillo since the very first season.

Raquel has remained a firm fan favourite over the years, especially when she abandoned the police to ally with the Professor for the second heist, taking on her new alias Lisbon.

Reflecting on her time on Netflix’s breakout Spanish hit, Ituño didn’t rule out the possibility of a surprise comeback after the fifth season.

Speaking to Vertele, she teased: “I think it’s the right decision to close the story of La Casa De Papel there, but who knows if in the future it will be reconsidered.”

The show’s creator was hoping to continue his Netflix partnership with new crime caper White Lines, though the short-lived series was sadly canceled after just one season.

Now fan demand has started to have more sway over the future of popular TV shows, could Money Heist’s fifth season prove successful enough to warrant a sixth?

While Ituño welcomed the idea of continuing the story, she was also cautious of a follow-up series becoming too much of a good thing.

Streaming giant Netflix usually keeps fans satisfied by ending their projects with a final season, rather than cutting a series short after a huge cliffhanger.

However, the platform recently received some flack this year for cancelling comedy-drama GLOW ahead of its fourth season due to challenges brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

Their recent model seems to confirm that Money Heist will indeed be no more when the fifth season is finally released.

Itziar Ituño also admitted it will be tough saying goodbye to her co-stars from the last five years.

She explained: “It’s better to leave people wanting and not feeling embarrassed, but it’s going to be a shame.

“You get used to the place, the history and especially the affections you make with the team.

“This has been a giant adventure since we started, and I think we are going to cry a lot on the last day of shooting.”

It will be equally hard for Money Heist’s faithful audience to say goodbye, but Itziar Ituño is nevertheless excited to take on new challenges once her time on the show has come to an end.

Money Heist Part 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
