Married at First Sight Australia series eight has mostly revolved around the controversy regarding Bryce Ruthven’s behaviour towards his wife Melissa Rawson. Fans believe he was “gaslighting” her from the very start and Rebecca Zemek was one of their fellow stars to call him out on it. So when Rebecca felt Bryce had gone too far at a dinner party, she claimed the cast and crew had to stop filming as a result.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from MAFS Australia.
Things had been frosty between Bryce and Rebecca after she accused him of flirting with her behind his “wife” Melissa’s back.
At the dinner party in question, Bryce sarcastically referred to Rebecca as “the queen” of this year’s season.
He then went over to her and forcefully planted a kiss on Rebecca’s cheek, much to her disgust.
She quickly back away and screamed: “Yuck! That’s disgusting!” before bursting into tears.
In a candid interview with Australian radio station 2Day FM on The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin, Rebecca said she made a complaint to the producers.
The MAFS Australia star claimed production was shut down “for the next day” after the dinner party.
She explained: “When he went to lean into me, I just freaked out.
“I didn’t want him near me, him coming over to me was quite stressful for me, but then as soon as he grabbed me and leant over to me I think I just blacked out.”
Rebecca continued: “It was just so mentally draining for me at the time.
“I look at it the same way as I did before. It’s harassment.
“I think you learn to keep your hands to yourself when you’re five years old.
“It was really hard for me to even watch…Everyone’s seen a good edit of it; it was worse than that.”

In response to the incident, Bryce told The Kyle and Jackie O Show that it was simply a “friendly kiss”.
He said: “It’s not really a kiss. You know how you greet someone, give them a hug, kiss on the cheek sort of thing.
“She gives me a big shove away and then breaks down in fake tears.”
But fans of MAFS Australia were also less than impressed with Bryce’s actions.
Taking to Twitter at the time, one viewer wrote: “Rebecca did not consent to that kiss from Bryce. @Channel9 you need to acknowledge this and remove Bryce immediately!”
While a second angrily commented: “At the end of the day, Bryce barely knows Bec.
“But he clearly dislikes her & is very open about it.
“Yet he STILL felt entitled to enter her space, lay hands on her & forcibly kiss her as she tried to get away from him.
“And a production crew stood by and did NOTHING.”
MAFS Australia is available to watch on E4.
