Dame Joan Collins recalled the highs and lows of her glamorous Hollywood career in the BBC’s This Is Joan Collins, which aired on BBC Two on New Year’s Day. The actress opened up on the “worst thing that ever happened” to her as she detailed the horrific brain injury her daughter Katy suffered in 1980.
Joan married her third husband Ron Kass, the then head of the Beatles’ record label Apple, in 1972.
The couple welcomed a daughter Katy the same year.
Joan had two older children Tara and Alexander Newly from her first second marriage to Anthony Newly.

Joan recalled: “I was told she was going to die and she was in a coma for a long time.
“Eventually she started to make little sounds and then she took her first faltering steps. She was going to be alright.
“Katy’s accident was the worst thing that had ever happened to me.”
Elsewhere in the documentary, Joan opened up on her first marriage with actor Maxwell Reed.
The actress was introduced to Maxwell while starring in I Believe in You.
Maxwell, who was 14 years Joan’s senior, asked out the young actress who was 17 at the time.
She recalled: “The gigantic powder blue Buick drew up outside Bayswater Tube station.
“He had an American accent which was quite odd for a man from South London.

“He was 31, and I was 17 and a virgin – I knew that would cause trouble at home”
Joan, who was a virgin at the time, explained how she was drugged and woke up to find Maxwell raping her.
Explaining why she subsequently married Maxwell, she said: “Had I not been so innocent about sex and the way things should be I wouldn’t have done that, but I had a strong sense of guilt, so I did it.
“The honeymoon was a fiasco. We looked outwardly happy but underneath I was miserable.”
