RUMOURS have emerged that Jon Batiste could step away from music this summer to focus on his wife Suleika Jaouad.
The award-winning singer has opened up on his partner’s ongoing battle with cancer after she was diagnosed with leukaemia for the second time in early 2022.
Is Jon Batiste taking the summer off?
Fans have speculated that Jon may take some time off during the busy summer months amid further updates on his wife’s health.
Attending the Time 100 Gala on June 8, he revealed why they decided to get married at the star’s home in February.
"The house has been kind of a temple. It really has been a place where we go and it replenishes our soul. We built something very, very special. It's the combination of both of us," he told People.
"Our time there has helped to level a lot of what's happening. We got married in that house."
Describing the intimate affair he added: "It was just close family. It was one of those things that we did the day before her bone marrow transplant, it was a very deep time in our lives, obviously for so many reasons.”

Giving an update on his wife’s health, he confirmed his wife was "doing better,” after a positive six week stretch.
He told the outlet, “Every single day we are praying and continuing the — I mean, she is incredible. You wouldn't think that she is going through what she's going through when you see her.”
"She has this ability to take the toughest challenges and make it life-affirming. So, with her it's a special case. How she's doing, it's a Suleika thing."
Suleika was first diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 22, but has continued to have words published by New York Times, Vogue, Glamour, NPR, and Women's Health in addition to a string of successful memoirs.

The pair met as teenagers while at band camp and have continued to sing eachother’s praises in the face of hardship.
During the Covid-19 quarantine of 2020, Jon said: "Obviously there's so much loss that we've faced individually and collectively, but I find that this time has also been a blessing in that it gives us a break to be with each other.”

Despite uncertainty over his immediate future, Jon is reportedly still committed to a number of exciting projects.
Batiste regularly tours with his band Stay Human, and appears with them nightly as bandleader and musical director on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Meanwhile, he also serves as the music director of The Atlantic and the Creative Director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.
In May, he was forced to cancel a new show, titled American Symphony, at New York’s Carnegie Hall after testing positive for coronavirus.
At the time the Louisiana native said in a statement, “I thank all my supporters for their love and understanding. See you all soon!”
