How Billie Eilish went from grungy glam to grown-up chic as she stuns in video for new single Lost Cause

AS Billie Eilish debuts her grown-up new look in her Lost Cause music video, we look back over her style transformation.

From baggy head-to-toe Chanel to SKIMS loungewear, the 19-year-old Bad Guy singer has been thrilling fans with her fashion evolution.

Billie began cultivating her oversized sports-luxe look more than five years ago.

The Ocean Eyes singer wore a baggy khaki T-shirt teamed with a camo-print baseball cap and scuffed white sneakers and socks to a Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party in 2016.

As the musician started gaining traction for her husky, moody songs, she caught the eye of big-name fashion houses.

The teenager began adding accessories from Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel to her achingly cool streetwear outfits in 2017 and 2018.

By 2019, Billie had dyed her hair an electric green and black and given her look the full high-fashion makeover.

She was still rocking co-ords, puffa jackets, tracksuits and bucket hats – but the athleisure was head-to-toe designer.

From a utilitarian jacket and matching shorts by Prada to a full checked Burberry tracksuit, Billie was having fun with her sartorial flair.

She admitted in 2019 that clothes are the "first thing that matters every day" of her life.

"It’s the first thing that I think about that I barely even think about it. It’s my whole identity. My whole personality is based off my clothes and what I’m wearing that day," the songwriter told Vogue Australia.

"If I’m wearing something I don’t feel comfortable in I will turn into a totally different persona that I hate.

"What I like about just dressing like I'm 800 sizes bigger than I am is it kind of gives nobody the opportunity to judge what your body looks like. I don't want to give anyone the excuse of judging.

"And it's not like everyone's going to judge you, but they all do in their head. [Fashion has] always been my security blanket. It's my way of expression without having to use words."

The No Time To Die singer gave her look a retro Old Hollywood glamour twist earlier this year while posing for British Vogue.

Billie said she was channeling "classic, old-timey pin-up" in her Vogue cover as she posed in body-hugging nude lingerie, a trench coat, stockings and pumps.

The mature new look was a hit, harvesting one million likes in just six minutes on Instagram, matching her own previous record when she dyed her hair blonde in March.

As she revealed the pictures on her social media, she thanked British Vogue "for respecting my vision and making this come to life."

She said: "I love these pictures and I loved doing this shoot.

"Do whatever you want whenever you want. F**k everything else."

The singer has been fully embracing the lighter side of life ever since she went platinum and ditched her usual black and green look.

And she cemented her fashion overhaul with the music video for Lost Cause – her latest song to drop from her upcoming album Happier Than Ever.

Billie wore nude shorts and a T-shirt from Kim Kardashian's SKIMS shapewear line, as did the group of girlfriends who starred alongside her.

She also threw in some choreography for the first time, twerking in her living room while messing around with her friends.

The setting of Lost Cause is a wild all-girls slumber party, while the lyrics are about realizing the man you're dating isn't all that.

Billie summer up the mood on Instagram, enthusing: "We had the time of our lives being hot & shooting this heeheeeeeehee ENJOY LOL."
