Riverdale season five jumped seven years into the future with the Core Four now all young adults. The CW and Netflix series was renewed for another season earlier this year so fans are excited to see how the show develops even further given the massive leap from high school days to the problems of the real world. There will be a familiar star from The CW who will also be welcomed into the fold when the teen drama returns.

How are Riverdale and the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina connected?

Riverdale is loosely based on the iconic Archie Comic series but Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) aren’t the only ones to come from the Archiverse.

The Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics came from the same creators and was the inspiration for the popular 1990s children’s show.

But the plot of Sabrina Spellman was given a new lease of life when The CW gave a series order for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina back in 2018.

Unfortunately for fans, the show was cancelled in December 2020 after just four seasons.

But this isn’t the end of actress Kiernan Shipka as the teenage witch.

Earlier this month, The CW released the season six trailer for Riverdale which showed Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) greeting Sabrina in the final few moments.

The short clip didn’t give much away as Cheryl simply said with a smile: “Look at what the black cat dragged in.”

So it is clear that the pair know each other and explains how Sabrina will be introduced into the show.

If you were a fan of The Chilling Adventures, then you would know there was a link with the Blossom family.

Sabrina and Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) were in search of three powerful artefacts, one of which was the crown of Herod, who was previously owned by a man called Benjamin Blossom who is clearly an ancestor of Cheryl’s.

They ventured to Riverdale which, in the Archie Comics, is next door to Sabrina’s town of Greendale, to find the relic.

Sabrina and Ambrose locate the crown underneath a maple tree, hinting that the Blossom empire has a connection to the supernatural world.

Going by the series six trailer, this could be an upcoming theme for the new episodes.

At the end of season five, Cheryl wanted revenge against her former friends as their ancestors murdered hers.

As they refused to issue a public apology, Cheryl put a “curse” on them but does it actually work?

The trailer shows voodoo dolls and teases someone being sacrificed by the redhead.

With Sabrina now in town as well, this will only add to the spooky goings-on in the once quiet town.

A lot changed by the end of series five as Archie and Veronica are no longer together.

Instead, Archie has finally made it official with Betty, a romance that has been teased from the very start.

Meanwhile, Veronica has rekindled with Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton) who had a brief fling during series four.

Riverdale season 6 will premiere on Tuesday, November 16 on The CW in America. Season 6 will start on Netflix UK on Wednesday, November 17.
