The real fate of Mick isn’t known, because he went missing at sea whilst trying to save Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright), but he is presumed dead. However, some fans have latched onto hope that he might be alive because his body still hasn’t been found two months on. EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw teased this theory further when he appeared on Friday’s Loose Women and seemed to suggest Mick could be alive.

Everyone on the Square has assumed Mick is dead, and a grieving Linda has been left heartbroken.

However, there has been no official confirmation of Mick losing his life.

Recently, his wallet was found and returned to Linda, who broke down as she found a picture of the pair of them inside.

However, Chris seemed to fuel the rumours that Danny’s EastEnders position would be open for him to return to.

During the ITV chat show, he remarked: “It’s a soap, anything can happen!”

He continued: “There’s an unwritten rule – there wasn’t a body so there’s every chance.

“Will Mick rock back up in Walford in a few years covered in seaweed? Will he be the dead body at Christmas?”

Danny himself has talked about the possibility of making a comeback to the soap as the lovable landlord.

In Friday’s Jonathan Ross Show, the host addressed how there was still scope for Mick to make an EastEnders-style comeback.

“If it goes t**s up I can go back,” Danny joked. “I can turn up in three years’ time, walk in the Queen Vic smothered in seaweed.

“They wanted to keep it open. I’m very privileged and grateful for that job. It really did change my career and my life.”

It seems other plans are already in the works for this Christmas though, despite the festive season being 10 months away.

On Monday, the soap aired a special flashforward to Christmas Day.

The regular episode had seen Linda hosting a lock-in at the pub with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

However, it ended with a clip in the future which saw the women standing over a man’s body before confirming he had died.

Naturally, fans are now trying to work out who the dead man could be.

Discussing the unique story, Chris teased: “I was looking for a blockbuster story for 2023 and there was clearly an appetite for a ‘whodunnit’, but I was reluctant to play a ‘whodunnit’ in the traditional form, largely due to the spectacularly brilliant ‘Who Killed Lucy’ storyline, that was not just hugely successful but also incredibly gripping throughout.

“I, therefore, tasked the writing and story team that if we were to do another ‘whodunnit’ it would have to be different, have to feel different, and have to have a very different mechanic at its core.

“A couple of our writers and story team took that brief on board and came back with the idea of flashing forward and, in doing so, we’re promising a ‘whodunnit’ is coming in the future.”

EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
