BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was left devastated for her co-star as he shared the tragic news that a beloved family member had died.

BBC Weather presenter Simon King took to Twitter to share a very sad update with fans which left Naga reaching out to console him.

Simon wrote on Twitter: "He had a good life of 17 years but old age issues finally caught up with him and we had to say goodbye to Alfie today. Rest in peace my tiger."

Accompanying the tweet was a picture of ginger tom Alfie sitting in the windowsill on a sunny day, as fans and co-stars flocked to wish Simon their best.

Naga wrote in response: "So sorry Simon xxx."

Simon then added: "We had to make that decision and it was so hard. Just had to keep remembering it was the best thing for him in the circumstances."

Another fan added: "Sorry to hear about Alfie’s passing Simon but glad to celebrate a life well lived."

"So hard to say goodbye but the greatest gift we can give them is to let them go when they need to," someone else posted.

It comes after Naga confirmed that her own beloved pet had sadly died last month, as her gorgeous cat Missy lost her life.

Taking to social media with an update for fans, a heartbroken Naga announced: "Said goodbye to our darling, sweet girl Missy yesterday.

"She may have been small, but she was immense in stature.

"The sweetest cat I've ever loved. She's left a massive hole in our hearts and home."

Naga was thankfully supported by her legion of fans, as one emotional follower penned: "So sorry to hear that Naga. What a beauty she was. Much love x."

Someone else said: "I'm so terribly sorry for you loss. Their only flaw is that they don't live long enough. Thinking of you."

Another added: "So sorry to hear this. It is the saddest time."

Naga's Instagram page is filled with pictures of her adorable felines, with one showing Naga relaxing with Missy asleep on her thighs while her other cats, Xena and Bella, napped around her.
