Barbara Windsor’s death sparks 300 per cent rise in donations to Alzheimer’s Research

DAME Barbara Windsor’s death has sparked a 300 per cent rise in donations to Alzheimer’s Research.

The ex-Carry On and EastEnders star, 83, had battled the illness for the last six years of her life.

Husband Scott Mitchell praised Sun readers yesterday for responding to our appeal for aid to the charity in her memory.

Scott, 57, said: “It’s great news.

"I fully back The Sun’s campaign for the Government to increase funding into research.”

''COVID has set back research for “Alzheimers Research UK” like it has for other charities for life ending illnesses and we must remember Dementia is not going away.''

Alzheimer’s Research said thousands of pounds have been donated.

Director Tim Parry said: “The uptick in donations is testament to the love for this national icon.

“It reflects a desire to do something about the condition that brought about such a tragic loss.”
