In a new episode of FOX’s singing competition show, the singer is booed for the first time in the six years of her serving as a judge on the show after criticizing one contestant’s look.
AceShowbiz –Katy Perry is seemingly not a fan of too much glitter. In the Monday, April 18 episode of “American Idol“, the singer was booed for the first time in the six years of her serving as a judge on the show after criticizing one contestant’s look.
Nutsa Buzaladze, the said contestant, took the stage in a sparkly dress and boots to perform Grace Potter and the Nocturnals‘ “Paris (Ooh La La)”. Commenting of the contestant’s look, Katy said, “Nutsa, every time you take the stage, it’s like you glitter bomb the stage. Listen, I think that one thing I personally would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that’s gonna be hard.”
As soon as she made the remarks, Katy earned a chorus of boos from the audience at the Disney Aulani property in Hawaii. As for Nutsa, she asked for an exception from the “Fireworks” hitmaker, “Liner? Maybe eyeliner?”
Meanwhile, fellow judge Luke Bryan was happy to see Katy getting booed as it was the first time for her to experience it. “Yes! Katy got booed!” the country star said. Lionel Richie, who also serves as a judge, chimed in, “Whoa, hostility!”
Of the boos, Katy noted, “Okay, first time in six seasons. Whoo-hoo.” The pop star, who shares a daughter with fiance Orlando Bloom, then continued her critique for Nutsa, “But what I’m saying is that I’d like you to flip the script. I think we want to be, like, pulled in by our hearts, too. I’d love to see that, and I think America might, too.”
It wasn’t the first time for Nutsa to get into a drama. Prior to this, she was called out by her duet partner Carina DeAngelo for sleeping instead of coming to the rehearsal for their duet of “I Put a Spell on You”. After she learned about the situation, Katy then asked Nutsa to have “more grace.” Her comments, however, earned Katy backlash as some people thought it was “condescending.”
The following week, Nutsa publicly apologized to Katy. “Katy, I wanted to apologize because I felt very bad when you said to me, ‘More grace, more grace,’ ” she said, “And I wanted to like tell also my side of the story and I felt so bad I was, like, frozen.”
Nutsa added, “Then I didn’t want to bring negative energy, so that’s why I didn’t say nothing. I thought that because I didn’t speak up that I could not really speak because I did not want to cry onstage, but after I left the stage I was just like destroyed, so I wanted to apologize for this.”
In response, Katy immediately stood up to give Nutsa a hug. The “Roar” singer told her, “That is great. That’s so wonderful and Nutsa, what I meant by grace is that it’s OK to be determined and ambitious and edgy and strong but also with grace.”
