While there may be plenty of intriguing things that you don’t know about Jennifer Lopez, one thing that’s common knowledge is the fact that she’s an entertainment industry superstar. Along with releasing countless hits like “If You Had My Love,” “Waiting For Tonight,” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” as well as “Jenny from the Block,” just to name a few, she’s also taken home plenty of awards and a heck of a lot of money. Of course, that’s not even mentioning her other creative and entrepreneurial pursuits such as acting and various business ventures (which were, for a time, shared with her now-ex, Alex Rodriguez).
RedOne may not be quite as famous as Lopez; however, he happens to be a super successful music producer who has worked with massive stars like Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Enrique Iglesias, and One Direction, according to the Daily Mail. He’s also teamed up with Lopez, which, it turns out, is something that he was warned not to do. Read on to find out why he was warned against working with the global star and who encouraged him to ignore the naysayers.
RedOne was told Jennifer Lopez could hurt his career
Jennifer Lopez may be an icon, but she’s gone through a dramatic journey and transformation over the years that has seen her experience both highs and lows when it comes to her career. Indeed, there was a point when she wasn’t exactly at the top of her game when it comes to the music side of her endeavors, which was when RedOne was approached to team up with the singer. But before he could sign up, those around him had something to say about the situation.
“A lot of people heard that I might be maybe considering working with J-Lo … so everybody’s calling me [and saying], ‘Don’t do it, Red! It’s not good for your career, you’re the hottest producer,'” RedOne told the “Unpopular with Jacques Peterson” podcast on September 2. It looks like people around RedOne were simply looking out for him and were concerned about the impact J-Lo could have on his name, since she wasn’t regarded as the hit-making pop star she is today.
Granted, not everyone felt that way. RedOne revealed that he had some people whispering different things in his other ear about the possible collaboration. “Everybody was telling me not to do it. Everybody besides two people,” he said. Read on to find out who.
Some believed RedOne could revive Jennifer Lopez's music career
Although there were apparently those who were trying to discourage RedOne from working with Jennifer Lopez, he also told the “Unpopular with Jacques Peterson” podcast that someone very close to him had a very different opinion about the opportunity. RedOne explained, “My wife, she told me, ‘I think [J-Lo’s] an icon. For us women, we all love her, and she just needs one song to take it over and you can do it.'” On top of that, RedOne noted that music industry executive Martin Kierszenbaum felt the same way, telling his producing peer, “J-Lo is a star, she just needs a song.”
In the end, RedOne decided to go ahead and work with Lopez. Together, they put out “On The Floor,” which turned out to be one of the most popular hits she’s ever released. In fact, it even hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 2011. “We did an incredible song and she killed it. J-Lo is a star, there is no doubt about it,” RedOne added. “She owned it and it became historical.”
