BTS is back, and life has never felt so sweet. On Aug. 11, Big Hit Entertainment revealed the boys — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — officially ended their extended period of rest and are already out for scheduled activities — ahem, Bon Voyage Season 4, anybody? Meanwhile, members of BTS ARMY have been buzzing about the Korean boy band’s return throughout social media. Then on Sept. 18, fans were sent into a frenzy when One Direction’s Liam Payne confirmed his BTS bias during an interview. And honestly, the reason why will not surprise you.
Payne answers the internet and reveals his BTS bias is Jimin
During an interview with the U.K. publication Heat World, fandoms collided between Directioners and ARMYs. Throughout the interview, the 26-year-old singer answered a series of questions sent in by Tweets. One question, in particular, piqued the interest of BTS fans. And Payne admitted his BTS bias is Jimin.
“Liam Payne if you’re reading this,” a fan asked. “Who is your bias in BTS?”
Payne responded, “Oh! There’s this one kid who does these crazy mic flips.” The publication then inserted a clip of Jimin performing one of his legendary mic flips, as the One Direction member had a bit of trouble remembering Jimin’s name. “Is it Jimin?” he asked. “Jimin or Jungkook. It begins with a ‘J.’” Nevertheless, Payne continued to compliment the “Serendipity” singer on his microphone skills. “He’s very good,” the singer gushed. “It’s slightly scarily good.”
The One Direction member offers advice to BTS
The Heat World interview wasn’t the only time Payne mentioned BTS on Sept. 18. In a separate discussion with Sirius XM Radio’s The Morning Mash Up show, the singer offered some advice to the K-pop stars.
“They’re gonna get really tired because they dance loads,” he said, according to The Morning Mash Up Twitter. “We didn’t even dance and we were tired! They’re super good at dancing.” Payne also hinted at Jimin’s impressive mic skills again. “There’s one kid who is really good at mic flipping as well,” Payne said.
Payne previously handed Jimin the mic-flipping crown
Now, if you keep up with One Direction and BTS, you might already know Payne previously praised Jimin’s mic-flipping talents in 2018. Prior to the One Direction hiatus, Payne was well-known for his microphone stunts during live concerts. Then in September 2018, a fan challenged Jimin and Payne to a “mic flip duel,” per Teen Vogue. However, the “Strip That Down” singer wasn’t up for it and handed the crown to Jimin.
“Nah he wins,” Payne tweeted with a laugh-crying emoji. “I’m out.”
Fans react to Payne’s love for BTS’s Jimin
Both ARMYs and Directioners were quick to respond to Payne’s comments. And of course, most fans were excited.
“I love when artists support one another,” one user tweeted. “The fact that he knew about #JIMINs mic flips proves he has watched performances because that is not the first thing new people notice right away! Go Liam!!”
Meanwhile, other fans were shocked by Payne’s declaration of support in recent interviews.
“Y’ALL TELLING ME LIAM IS JIMIN BIASED!!???” a fan wrote. “But … how does he even know about the flips??? Unless he has a stan acc !!! Unless he has been watching the concerts??? Unless he’s been watching compilations????”
No matter how you look at it, Payne’s comments about Jimin and BTS have been a nice surprise for everyone — ARMYs and Directioners alike. Now, all we need is a collaboration between the two artists and our lives will be set forever. But until that happens, we’ll happily accept whatever both parties have in store for us next.
