David Bowie took on characters of all kinds in his incredible performances. From Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke, Bowie was a performer who could morph and become anything the imagination could conjure up. In his private life he kept himself to himself, however, but did he have any children?
David Bowie, born David Robert Jones, was brought up in Brixton before his family moved him to Bromley.
Needless to say, Bowie was a huge music fan growing up, listening to his father’s records from Elvis Presley and Little Richard, showing aptitude for performance at a young age.
He studied art, music and design, but was performing in bands as a teenager until he caught the eye of promoter Leslie Conn, who did not stay with Bowie long due to his continuous movement from band to band.
Eventually he became a solo act, with Kenneth Pitt managing him, during which time he met Angela Barnett, just before the release of Space Oddity in 1969.

The pair married within a year, but according to Angie, they married “so that I could work,” telling the Evening Standard: “We got married so that I could work [to get a permit].
“I didn’t think it would last and David said, before we got married, ‘I’m not really in love with you’ and I thought that’s probably a good thing.
“Then I think he fell in love with me because he got really mad when we broke up and he behaved like a b****y queen.”
Bowie even said of her, she was like “living with a blowtorch,” and their relationship, needless to say, did not last long.

One source told the Evening Standard Angie had a huge impact on Bowie’s career and helped to “promote” him.
The source said: “He was already making music but she understood the power of his androgyny and ambiguous sexuality and pushed that side.
“Really, he was a voracious heterosexual but Angie promoted an image of him as a polysexual athlete.
“Where David had the diffidence of an Englishman, she had the brash confidence of an American.”

However, despite their marriage only lasting a short time, Angie gave birth to their son, Zowie, on May 30, 1971.
Zowie is now widely known as Duncan Jones, and is film director, having made films Moon, Source Code and Warcraft.
When Zowie was just eight-years-old, in 1980, Angie and Bowie divorced, and the singer had full custody of his son.
Bowie’s career continued to flourish through the 1980s, seeing him move through the New Romantic pop era to the Tin Machine, his hard-rock quartet.
In 1992, Bowie married his second wife, Somali model Iman, and the couple had a private ceremony in Switzerland.
With Iman, Bowie had his second child, Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Jones, who was born in New York City on August 15, 2000.
Bowie also took on a step-daughter, Zulekha Haywood, who was born to Iman and her former husband Spencer Haywood in 1978.
Sadly, Iman was left a widow and their children without a father when Bowie died of liver cancer on January 10, 2016.
