Princess Eugenie’s happy news that she’s expecting a second child with her husband Jack Brooksbank came this morning in the way that royal stories have been announced for centuries, via an official Palace statement.

However, moments later, Eugenie took to Instagram to share the news that her son August, two, is to have a younger sibling in the summer in a much less formal way…via a cute Instagram photo of mother and son on a sunny winter’s day.

The casual snap came with a caption: ‘We’re so excited to share that there will be a new addition to our family this summer.’

Princess Eugenie quickly followed a formal statement on her second pregnancy with an Instagram post, showing her son August hugging her blossoming bump, revealing she’s due to give birth in the summer

There was also a camera emoji and the words ‘by Jack’, Jack being financier Jack Brooksbank, who Eugenie wed in October 2018.

It’s not the first time the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York has broken her big personal news this way – she took a similar approach in 2020 when she announced that she was expecting her first child.

The royal shared that her husband, financier Jack Brooksbank had taken the snap

Posting a photo of baby slippers on Instagram, she wrote: ‘Jack and I are so excited for early 2021’.

And in 2020, fellow royal Mike Tindall used another platform, his rugby podcast, to announce that his wife Zara, was pregnant with their third child.

The former England rugby star was welcomed with cheers from his rugby mates as he announced a ‘third Tindall’ was on its way during his podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby.

Tindall told co-hosts Alex Payne and James Haskell: ‘It’s been a good week for me, had a little scan last week – third Tindall on its way.’

In 2020, Mike and Zara Tindall chose a podcast to reveal they were expecting third child, Lucas

The couple’s previous two pregnancies had been formally announced by Buckingham Palace, but the pair (pictured at Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding) opted for a more low-key approach with their youngest child

The low-key conversational reveal was a far cry from the previous official statements released by the Palace to announce Zara’s previous pregnancies.

Princess Eugenie’s older sister Beatrice doesn’t have an Instagram account but is proactive on Twitter, and has shared her personal news in under 280 characters in recent years.

When the 34-year-old became engaged to property tycoon Edoardo ‘Edo’ Mapelli Mozzi in September 2019, the royal covered all bases.

Alongside a glamorous engagement photoshoot, there was also an official statement, and a tweet, with Beatrice writing: ‘I’m excited to announce my engagement to Edoardo’.

On Twitter in 2021, the couple announced they’d named their daughter Sienna

When the couple announced the name of their firstborn baby daughter, Sienna Elizabeth, Beatrice once again took to Twitter, with a photo of her newborn’s feet.

Sienna was born weighing 6lbs 2oz at 11.42pm on 18th September 2021 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, in London.

Beatrice penned: ‘We are delighted to share that we have named our daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi. We are all doing well and Wolfie is the best big brother to Sienna.’

Today, it was Beatrice’s younger sister to reveal the latest arrival in the York family. Buckingham Palace said in a statement: ‘Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are pleased to announce they are expecting their second child this summer.

‘The family are delighted and August is very much looking forward to being a big brother.’

This afternoon, Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, took to Instagram too, sharing a snap of her grandson August splashing about in the puddles, writing she was ‘in Granny heaven.’
