It’s Prince George’s birthday and among the many well-wishers on social media are his famous aunt and uncle, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who shared a sweet message for their nephew’s big day. Not everyone was happy with the Sussexes‘ birthday wishes, however.
Prince George turned 6!
On the occasion of Prince George’s sixth birthday, the palace released a series of new photographs taken by his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge. Kate Middleton is known for photographing her children and capturing their personalities in a casual way as opposed to a formal portrait session.
The photos are stunning and adorable, as George is seen giggling with a wide smile in one pic while laying in the grass, revealing a missing tooth. Another photo, taken while on holiday, has him posing more seriously at a table, while the third image has him looking up at the camera and smiling.
The palace shared the photos to celebrate his big day, with one photo’s caption reading: “Happy Birthday Prince George! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share new photographs of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness’s sixth birthday. This photograph was taken recently in the garden of their home at Kensington Palace by The Duchess of Cambridge. Thank you everyone for all your lovely messages!”
Another caption shared: “This photograph was taken on holiday with the family by The Duchess of Cambridge.”
Prince Harry and Markle leave a sweet message but fans are unimpressed
Joining in the comments from adoring fans who left their birthday wishes were Prince Harry and Markle, who wrote: “Happy Birthday! Wishing you a very special day and lots of love!”
Some fans took issue with the Sussexes’ birthday message and went on the attack, with comments such as: “He is the future KING. Treat him with respect” and another person sharing: “He is HRH Prince George to you!!!! Don’t forget to mention!”
Another critic stated: “When all the royal accounts have [used] a ‘prince’ except yours… so there is really something.”
It wasn’t all bad, however, as some people defended the Sussexes, noting they are family so using a title is unnecessary. One person commented: “They are his uncle and aunt. No need to write his title. Being sincere is more important.”
“Stop nitpicking [and] relax,” another personnoted, adding, “You just want to find fault where there is none. Family isfamily and how they address each other in public or private is none of yourconcern.”
Another fan pointed out: “it would be bad if they said ‘george’ and nothing else. They didn’t even say a name, making it better than if they wouldn’t of included ‘prince.’ Sit down.”
Another person pointed out, “No, his name is Goerge. Prince is his title and status. Get your facts straight.”
One person shared: “apparently they changed the way they wrote the message after Princess Charlotte’s birthday post and now they are getting criticized again. No win situation.”
