What to wear this weekend: Big collar knitwear

What to wear this weekend: FEMAIL picks out the best big collar knitwear

  • Camilla Ridley-Day shares advice for styling the best big collar knitwear
  • She says knitwear is a priority for keeping warm with the cold temperatures
  • The British style expert says that an oversized collar will provide all the style

PRAIRIE PERFECT

Fashion’s obsession with the prairie look began last summer — you might even be working it already with a blouse you bought then — but it’s gathering pace as we approach a new season.

A feminine and fanciful oversized collar is just the finish you need to give your woolly some oomph, when a uniform of jeans and jumpers still prevails.

FRILLS & THRILLS

Even if I can barely feel my fingers on the keyboard, at least my top half is cosy and looks eye-catching for video calls and without the need to accessorise.

A collar can do all the talking, so go as big as you dare or even make it frilled, and stand out like Kamala Harris’s stepdaughter Ella Emhoff at last month’s U.S. presidential inauguration.

SIMPLY DOES IT

The Spring/Summer shows from Chloe and Miu Miu showcased some serious costume drama appeal with their takes on the trend. But to avoid looking like you’ve just stepped off a catwalk, keep the rest of your outfit pared back and fuss-free.

These Whistles high-waisted jeans I’m wearing will help disguise any signs of lockdown over-indulgence, and the frayed hem looks as good with boots as with trainers.

ROYALlY APPROVED

Upgrade your stay-at-home look by setting a regal tone with New Look’s pointed collar in broderie anglaise (below). Princess Diana’s fondness for statement collars was depicted in the latest season of The Crown, and Princess Charlotte has often worn them, too, so maybe the Duchess of Cambridge will follow suit. My daughter’s mini version from Zara is a look from which I’m happy to take inspiration!
