TESCO is recalling cheese burgers as they may contain sesame, which has not been declared on the label.

The supermarket has said that the burgers could pose a health risk to anyone with a sesame allergy.

The burgers may contain sesame both on and in the buns and have been sold throughout the UK and Ireland.

The product being recalled is Tesco's Two British Cheese Burgers with Buns with use by dates of June 28, 29 and 30 2019 and July 1, 3 and 4 2019.

The packets weigh 469g.

No other Tesco products are known to be affected by the recall.

As well as recalling the burgers, Tesco have contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, so they can tell their members about the issue.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers, which explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.

If you have bought the burgers and have an allergy to sesame the Food Standards Agency is warning that you should not eat it.

Instead, you can return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

Tesco has said you do not need a receipt to get your money back.

Tesco said it "apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused".

Tesco also posted about the recall on its Facebook page, but customers condemned the company for saying it was a "quick announcement".

Tesco's post read: "Quick announcement – there’s a potential sesame allergen issue with some of our Tesco 2 British beef cheese burgers with buns (469g).

"If you have a sesame allergy and have recently purchased this product, or would like any additional information, you can find out more here http://tes.co/CheeseBurgers."

Tara Rooney-Bell commented: "Tesco this isn’t a “quick” announcement type of thing… it’s an URGENT RECALL type of thing."

Rachel Sara added: "“Quick announcement” ??? Tesco how about URGENT! Words fail me. You have lost my custom."

And Bobbie Kristina said: "This should not just be a ‘quick announcement’.
"Are you actually aware of the severity of food allergies?! A reaction can be fatal!
"This needs to be highlighted UK wide so any and all allergy sufferers are aware of it!
"It may take someone a bit longer to complete that task than it is to pop this ‘quick announcement’ on Facebook but do you really want a potential fatality to come from this?!"

The Sun has asked Tesco for a comment and will update this article if the supermarket responds.
