DEAR DEIDRE: WHENEVER my husband is not working hard on the roads, he is drunk by 11am.
It is ruining my life, his and those of our three children, who are 11, nine and seven.
He works for a month at a time, doing long hours, then loses the next month to boozing.
But he won’t talk to me about it and refuses to get any help for his problem from support groups.
I am at my wits’ end. As I write this, he is passed out on the living-room floor while I try to help the kids with their home-learning in the kitchen.
He gets up early and is drunk early. He is getting ill with all the drinking.
The blackouts are becoming a regular occurance.

DEIDRE SAYS: It is stressful enough for you home-schooling the children in this pandemic, never mind dealing with the fallout of your husband’s alcoholism.
As you no doubt know, you cannot change him – he has to realise he has a problem and must want to change his life.
But help is available for you and your family at Family Lives (familylives.org.uk 0808 800 2222).
Al-Anon Family Groups (al-anonuk.org.uk, 0800 0086 811) can also help.
