Joe Wicks and I may have more in common than I thought. The personal trainer and home workout hero has been the soundtrack to most mornings in my household for a month. Or possibly more… I’ve given up counting!
As the nation’s new Mr Motivator bounds around on screen, certain parallels ring a bell: hair pulled back in a hasty topknot and a (whisper it) rather understated approach to exercise gear. While I may not have his abs or enthusiasm level, my gym kit is similarly minimalist.
I’ve been rotating the same two pairs of navy and black yoga leggings and a selection of tired old vest tops. But if you’re embracing the plethora of virtual classes on offer or running round the park for your daily exercise, there is new workout wear aplenty to put a spring in your step.
British style expert Jess Wood, shared her advice for embracing this season’s trends in fitness fashion. Pictured: Crop bra, £119, and leggings, £159, siloulondon.com

First up, printed ‘fashion’ leggings. The 1980s favourite made a huge catwalk resurgence at shows in February, including Yves Saint Laurent.
Buy a cool pair for working out in now, like the floral print ones from Arket (above), and you can team them with an oversized shirt and heels for an ‘out-out’ outfit later.
Look for a decent stretch component, but with enough cotton to be breathable. A deep built-in waistband — like those from Silou — will prevent that falling-down feeling when moving out of the downward dog yoga position.
Then there’s the array of tops with unusual statement backs. This peach Oysho number (above) has a strappy back just made for showing off, either alone or peeking out from under a slouchy sweatshirt.
I’m investing in some cool co-ordinating gear such as this gilet, jacket and leggings (second left) from Marks & Spencer.
If Joe could see me now, he would be so impressed…
