After last week’s tantalisingly brief glimpse of Oliver Valentine (James Anderson), back at Holby after a three year absence, tonight we get to see a lot more of him and find out what’s brought him back to the hospital. It’s the place, after all, where his promising career as a surgeon was brought to a halt by a bullet fired by Henrik Hanssen (Guy Henry)’s son.
In asking Hanssen to mentor him, perhaps both men have something to gain.
But is Ollie really ready to resume life as a doctor at Holby? His reaction to a thoughtless patient makes Hanssen wonder if he can cope emotionally and he asks Ollie to take time making a decision. What will the answer be?
Meanwhile, Kylie (Amy Murphy) has been looking after Lucky Simpson (Vineeta Rishi), caring for her physical needs and trying to cheer her up. Max (Jo Martin) hopes that, given time, Lucky might begin to adjust to being paralysed and find a reason to continue living. Could she be right, or is Lucky still determined that she wants Max to help her die?
And Ange (Dawn Steele) can’t believe how much energy Josh (Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge) has. He’s up in the mornings to go running with Eli (Davood Ghadami) before work, doing a full day on Darwin under the eagle eyes of Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel), and still has time to spare for Ange and the twins. But what she doesn’t know is that Josh is almost collapsing under the strain of all this, and he’s resorting to caffeine pills to keep him awake.
When Jac spots him with the pills she orders him off the ward. Can Eli intervene and get Jac to give him another chance?
When Josh’s mum Elaine comes to visit her new grandchildren, she’s once again worried that her son isn’t coping. ‘You would tell me if it was back?’ she asks him. What secret is he trying to hide? And is his past about to catch up with him?
