Does the Queen Still See Archie Now That Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Have Distanced Themselves From the Royal Family?

The littlest Sussex is one year old today! Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor is celebrating his first birthday. This birthday looks absolutely nothing like his parents, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry probably imagined when he was born. For starters, at that time, Meghan and Harry were still senior members of the royal family and were living in the UK. Now, they have stepped down from their royal positions, are separated from the rest of the royals by an ocean, and can’t have any of their friends or family around for the celebrations due to COVID-19.

So much has changed in the past year and there have been reports that Meghan and Harry didn’t leave the UK on the best terms with the queen. So, does the queen still communicate with her great-grandson, Archie?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping down

Prince Harry and Meghan had a rough few years before they decided to step back from their royal duties. Meghan had been taunted by the British press for months before they went to the queen to discuss leaving their roles. Ultimately, Queen Elizabeth II gave her blessing for her grandson and his family to step down.

“Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” she said in a statement.

“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved members of my family. I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.

“I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family.

“It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”

Does the queen still see Archie?

Now that Harry and Meghan live in LA, they surely don’t see their dear ol’ gran as much as they had before, which means Archie is getting a lot less face time with the monarch.

As his first birthday approached, people wondered if the queen was going to wish Archie a happy birthday publically given the weird standing of Harry and Meghan in the family, but she did on both the royal family’s Instagram and Twitter accounts.

“Happy Birthday to Archie Mountbatten-Windsor who is celebrating his 1st birthday today!” the account captioned a photo of the queen greeting Archie and Meghan with Prince Philip, Harry, and Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland.

“Archie is the queen’s eighth great-grandchild,” the post continued. ‬

The Sussexes had originally planned to travel to the U.K. to celebrate Archie’s birthday with Harry’s family but were unable to due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns and restrictions.

“Right now, their priority is keeping Archie safe and healthy and doing what they can to help out during this worldwide crisis,” a source told HollywoodLife. “When things do get back to normal, of course, they will want to celebrate and a big priority will be taking Archie overseas to see Harry’s family. But, at the moment, the focus is on doing everything possible to help out [with the pandemic]. They’re devastated by what is happening in the world right now and want to help out however they can.”
