Bride told to dump fiancé ‘before it’s too late’ after argument with his mum

Weddings can be stressful to plan, but in the end it's all worth it.

For one bride, she's been told to call off her special day after an incident with her fiancé's mum.

Posting anonymously on Reddit, the woman spoke out about the friction that's developed with her mother-in-law.

Originally, the couple were supposed to have a small wedding in Italy surrounded by 16 of their closest friends and family.

After the bride and groom were planning a party on their return but because of coronavirus, their plans had to change.

She said: "I didn't want a big wedding so this was my idea of perfection and I thought my fiancé's too.

"He brought up eloping way before I said anything."

But when her mother-in-law moved down the road, things started to get complicated.

She explained: "Over a year that version of the wedding was cancelled a 2nd time, my [mother-in-law] moved down the road and I got pregnant. Since MIL moved she's been hell.

"I had the baby prematurely in December. She is fine but while still in hospital MIL told me all the things I'd done 'wrong' during the pregnancy that caused the premature birth.

"She visits all the time unannounced, I have begged her to at least call ahead and does things with the baby I ask her not to but she knows best."

The mother-in-law also told the couple she was glad their wedding had been called off as they were making a big mistake.

Apparently the fiancé's mum feared the pair would regret if if they didn't have a "proper" wedding.

The woman added: "She has completely hijacked planning our September wedding.

"It's now a lot more your traditional over the top big white wedding. It probably would be the perfect wedding for someone else but it really isn't what I wanted."

She continued: "The one thing I was adamant on was that I was making my dress and baby's dress."

While the bride, who used to be a wedding dress designer, had already made her own gown, she was waiting to create the baby's closer to the day so the size was right.

But when her mother-in-law turned up one day gushing about the dress she bought, she was livid.

Despite telling her to take it back, the mother-in-law refused as it cost her a lot of money and she was unable to return it.

The bride revealed: "She said it cost her a lot of money and [she] won't be able to return it. I left and fiancé told me she broke down crying and was 'inconsolable'.

"After, he shouted at me for treating his mum like that and told me how I was turning into a bridezilla."

Despite begging him to support her, the bride gave up control for the rest of the wedding plans.

She said: "I asked him to tell me the truth on if he even wanted this wedding as it was a hell of a lot of money to just throw at a party we were both going to hate."

But as he couldn't give her a straight answer, the woman shared her situation on Reddit and many people criticised him.

In fact, some urged her to call off the wedding.

One said: "The only bridezilla is the MIL," another added: "Reconsider marrying this guy before it's too late."

A third added: "If your fiancé can't stand up for you now, he certainly won't after the wedding. If your opinion doesn't matter one bit to him when it comes to YOUR wedding and YOUR child, you're in for a very difficult marriage."
