Vivienne Westwood Is the Star of Her Own Juergen Teller-Shot SS22 Campaign

Juergen Teller is fashion’s favorite photographer, having worked with everyone from Palace to Kim Kardashian, but nothing screams of Teller’s signature candid, casual glamorous irreverence like a campaign for Vivienne Westwood. For Spring/Summer 2022, Westwood tapped Teller once again, this time around enlisting the fashion icon herself and the brand’s creative director Andreas Kronthaler alongside a host of talent to star in a campaign shot in the streets of Naples, specifically around the Spanish quarter and Lungomare di Mergellina.

As such, 16th century houses, fishing boats, cobbled streets littered with mopeds, plastic seaside furniture and locals come together to serve as the backdrop for Westwood’s SS22 collection, which is filled with references imperative to the brand’s signature aesthetic as well as a number of more contemporary nods.

Here, Westwood’s punk aesthetic appears in the form of a yellow-and-black checkered dress that’s softened with a bow silk wrap on the chest, while drama is served thanks to the ruched silver cape dress, the black silk dress that’s more of a sculpture if anything, but elevated with the oversized pearl earrings and headscarf, and the pair of boot-trousers in blue satin.

Contrasting this is the sailor-themed sweater and track pant look that’s adorned with the brand’s orb logo — and is notably paired with a technical, avant-garde take on a pair of Gladiator sandals, looking somewhat orthopedic — and the range of swimsuits on show.

This season’s contrast is accentuated in the Teller-shot lookbook which finds Westwood’s opulence and counter-culture aesthetic paired with a sense of normality (Westwood and Kronthaler appear on a pair of white plastic chairs). In related news, the brand has just dropped a line of “TEDDY” accessories in Japan.
