Priscilla Presley Wants This Surprising Choice to Play Her in the Elvis Movie

There are so many biopics coming out, it’s enough to boggle the mind. We’ve already seen one on Elton John, and later this year, we’ll get stories on Judy Garland and Jean Seberg. With the upcoming Elvis Presley movie in the works, Priscilla Presley wants Lana Del Rey to play her.

The question was posed to the former Mrs. Presley in light of last week’s announcement that Austin Butler is set to star the “Hound Dog” singer in director Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming biopic. (Butler will star alongside Tom Hanks as Col. Tom Parker, Presley’s manager.) Butler beat out the likes of Ansel Elgort and Harry Styles, who were also vying for the role.

So far, there’s been no word on who will take on the role of Presley’s wife, Priscilla, who was only 14 when she met the then-24-year-old Elvis. (The couple was married from 1967 to 1973 and share one child together, daughter Lisa Marie Presley.) Given her strong resemblance to Priscilla Presley and her unabashed love for Elvis and his style of music, singer Lana Del Rey is rumored to be seeking the role. When asked by The Blast about what she thinks of Del Rey playing her, Presley responded, “[I’m] in touch with [director] Baz [Luhrmann], I know what’s going on.” Presley also added that she “likes” Del Rey — though it isn’t clear whether she means she likes Del Rey in general or in terms of playing her.

Right now there are a lot of rumors and conjecture, with no real talk as to whether Del Rey is even aware of the project. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the movie portrays the relationship between the Presleys, considering Priscilla wasn’t even old enough to drive when she met Elvis. In this new era of Hollywood awareness, will there be criticism of their relationship? Then again, Del Rey doesn’t look 14, so they might avoid the issue entirely.

Either way, now’s the time to look at Del Rey’s Instagram and see just how striking that resemblance is.
