Best New Tracks: Drake, Tyler, the Creator, Stormzy and More

As the week in music comes to a close, HYPEBEAST has rounded up the 10 best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.

This week’s list includes Drake‘s three-track EP Scary Hours 2, Tyler, the Creator‘s Coca-Cola commercial cut “Tell Me How” and a remix of Yaw Tog’s “Sore” with Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur. We also have the debut single of Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars‘ newest side project Silk Sonic, a remix of “Best Friend” with Saweetie, Doja Cat and Stefflon Don, JAHMED‘s new EP ARMANI and singles from Mndsgn, AJ Tracey, Japanese Breakfast, Rostam and Jonathan Richetts.

Drake – Scary Hours 2

Ahead of the release of his delayed Certified Lover Boy album, Drake dropped a new EP entitled Scary Hours 2. The three-track project features guest verses from Rick Ross and Lil Baby, and will hopefully tide some fans over until the upcoming album’s release — which DJ Akademiks reported to be before April 2021.

Tyler, the Creator – “Tell Me How”

Tyler, the Creator officially released “Tell Me How” on streaming services. The track was created for a Coca-Cola commercial that debuted in late February 2021, with the artist previously sharing he played the flute for the song’s intro.

Yaw Tog x Stormzy x Kwesi Arthur – “Sore (Remix)”

Yaw Tog has enlisted Stormzy and Kwesi Arthur for a remix of his 2020 hit, “Sore.” The four-and-a-half-minute track arrives with an accompanying visual that sees the three surrounded by friends and high energy in Ghana, and is set to appear on the 19-year-old rapper’s upcoming album TIME.

Silk Sonic – “Leave the Door Open”

Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars have debuted the very first single of their newest duo, Silk Sonic. The track, entitled “Leave the Door Open,” takes inspiration from ’70s soul and will appear on the pair’s 2021 album.

Saweetie x Doja Cat x Stefflon Don – “Best Friend (Remix)”

Saweetie and Doja Cat enlisted Jamaican-British rapper Stefflon Don for an extra verse on their January 2021 collab, “Best Friend.” The cut serves a prelude to Saweetie’s upcoming studio album Pretty B*tch Music, which will also see production from Timbaland, Murda Beatz and more.

JAHMED has dropped off his sophomore EP, ARMANI. The nine-track project hears sharp lyricism and high-energy beats from the West Coast rapper, who describes the EP as a shining light during dark times. “ARMANI is a world. ARMANI is love. ARMANI is betrayal. ARMANI is resentment,” he said in a statement. “ARMANI is the current state of the world, how it made me feel, and how I overcame it. ARMANI is defeating self doubt. ARMANI is a process towards gaining clarity. ARMANI is family. ARMANI is finding yourself. ARMANI is redemption.”

AJ Tracey – “Anxious”

AJ Tracey is back with “Anxious” — his first single in over a year. Produced by Remedee, the track also arrives with an accompanying music video that shows the British rapper driving around in fancy cars, checking out some pricey jewelry and enjoying the view from the top of a skyscraper.

Japanese Breakfast – ”Be Sweet”

Japanese Breakfast has debuted “Be Sweet,” a new single from her upcoming album Jubilee. Michelle Zauner took inspiration from ’80s pop for the track, saying, “After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow up to be about joy. For me, a third record should feel bombastic and so I wanted to pull out all the stops for this one. I wrote ‘Be Sweet’ with Jack Tatum from Wild Nothing a few years ago. I’ve been holding onto it for so long and am so excited to finally put it out there.”

Mndsgn – ”Hope You’re Doin’ Better”

Stones Throw Records signee Mndsgn has made his return with the new single “Hope You’re Doin’ Better,” which is set to appear on his next album Rare Pleasure. The upcoming project first came to fruition in 2018 and promises to showcase the artist’s evolution from a beatmaker to vocalist, songwriter and arranger.

Rostam – ”4Runner”

Rostam has announced a June 4 release for his upcoming album Changephobia, along with the premiere of the new single “4Runner.” In a statement, the Iranian-American artist revealed that the song “captures the intimate thrill of a road trip with someone special,” adding, “A 12-string acoustic guitar and booming percussion match the sunshine and breeze of a drive across the West Coast, a queer love story unfolding alongside it. Isolated from the outside by car doors and a blaring stereo, they experience the euphoric aura of the sun and wind from within a world that is theirs alone.”

Jonathan Richetts – ”ENEMY”

With his upcoming project Wild Boy set to drop this year, Jonathan Richetts debuted a visual for his latest single “ENEMY.” Directed by Sage Anderson, the accompanying music video sees the artist portraying three different characters that pay tribute to the different stages in his life and his creative journey. Not only does this foreshadow the release of Wild Boy, but also a trilogy of projects that remain under wraps.
