Richard Madeley has revealed what really led to his unexpected exit from I’m A Celebrity’s Gwrych Castle last week, dispelling false claims from “oddballs”. Richard’s departure came after what he calls a “funny turn” in the middle of the night.

As a precaution, Richard was taken to hospital for some tests.

After what he called a “thorough MOT”, Richard was given the all clear.

However, he was unable to return to the castle because he had broken the show’s Covid safety bubble.

Now, Richard has hit back at claims from “oddballs” and decided to put the record straight about his health.

Richard explained that on the night of his “funny turn”, the celebrities cooked, ate, washed up and headed to bed at around 4am.

He then says he started to feel “detached and discombobulated” when he got into his bed, which the TV presenter believes was caused by dehydration.

Writing in the Telegraph, he said: “I reckon I must have been dehydrated that night, I’m forever not drinking enough water…

“So no, contrary to reports, I wasn’t at all unwell, apart from foolishly forgetting to stay hydrated.

“I didn’t pick up a stomach bug from my trial and – despite what some oddballs on Twitter might say – I wasn’t suffering ill-effects from my Covid vaccine.”

Following his sudden departure, Richard has hinted he would return to the show under one condition.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard, Richard said he would “certainly consider” a return.

However, he said he would not return to Gwrych castle and would rather go to Australia.

He said: “Done that, been there. I’d go where it’s warm.

“If you get chucked in the clink, as we were in the castle, it was freezing. We were actually shivering.

“Whereas if you are cast into jail in the jungle… at least it is warm.”

After his exit, Richard returned to his North London home with wife Judy Finnigan.

His daughter, Chloe Madeley, took to Instagram to share the first thing Richard did after arriving home.

In view of her 238,000 followers in the early hours of Friday morning, Chloe shared a photograph of a half-eaten McDonald’s meal along with the caption: “He’s home.”

Chloe also tagged her brother Jack in the post, confirming that he was also there to welcome their dad home.
