Piers Morgan has described how he contracted Covid-19 while at Wembley watching the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy on Sunday 11 July.

The 56 year old, who has a sprawling garden and swimming pool in his West Sussex home with wife Celia Walden, explained that he had a fever, chills, a horrible cough as well as sneezing fits that left him exhausted.

The former Good Morning Britain host told Mail on Sunday that his "confidence" that the event, which saw England lose 3-2 after missing three penalty shootouts, would be safe amid the pandemic had "disintegrated" as it was a "free-for-all".

Two days after the big match, he began feeling unwell and opted to take a lateral flow test, which came back positive. He then took a PCR test that confirmed the diagnosis, despite having had both doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

While he's now recovered from his symptoms, he told the publication: "My voice now sounds like Barry White, though I couldn't feel less like a Walrus of Love."

Piers, whose son Spencer recently made fun of his ITV walkout with a playful Father's Day card, added: "This is definitely the roughest I've felt from any illness in my adult life, BUT, as I slowly come out the other side, coughing and spluttering.

"I'm still here – unlike so many millions around the world who've lost their lives to Covid in this pandemic.

"For that, I owe a heartfelt debt of thanks to the brilliant scientists up in Oxford who created the Astra-Zeneca vaccine with such astonishing speed."

It comes after Piers recently launched a fresh attack on Prince Harry after it was announced the 36 year old would be coming out with his own memoir.

The TV personality took to his Twitter to react to the news of Harry's "intimate" and "heartfelt" memoir, which is reportedly a four-book deal with publishers Penguin Random House worth up to a whopping £29million.

Piers replied to a tweet from ITV's royal editor Chris Ship, which read: "NEW: Prince Harry will write his memoirs

"@penguinrandom calls it an “intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time”.

"He will share his “adventures, losses, and life lessons” says the publisher. Out in late 2022".

Outspoken star Piers reacted with: "You’ve got to be f*cking joking?????", alongside two laughing face emojis.

He later replied to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's biographer Omid Scobie's tweet that described the same announcement.

Piers wrote: "Ready to tell his story? [laughing face emoji] [laughing face emoji] Prince Privacy hasn’t stopped yapping, whining & trashing his family all bloody year."
