Los Angeles County officials have announced that all hiking trails, bike paths and beaches will be closed for the next few weeks amid the current health crisis.
California is currently under a stay-at-home order, but people were allowed to go on hikes and walks along the beach as long as they stayed six feet away from other people. After thousands of people flocked to these outdoor places this past weekend, officials made the decision to shut them down until April 19.
Gary Jones, the director of L.A. County Department of Beaches and Harbors, says the enforcement “will take shape of many forms across the different jurisdictions that comprise the Los Angeles coastline.”
People are still allowed to go for walks, runs, and bike rides around their own neighborhoods.
“We cannot afford to see a repeat of crowded beaches this holiday weekend, the risk of spreading COVID-19 is too great,” Jones added.
