Former Loose Women panellist Sherrie Hewson has spoken out about her marriage to her ex-husband Ken Boyd, revealing that she should have left her partner “a long time” before they separated in 2001 and later divorced in 2011. Speaking on The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine’s podcast, Things I Told My Daughter, the former Coronation Street star, 71, claimed that she stayed with her partner as she didn’t want to hurt their daughter.

It was just so awful because it happened in a really bad way

Sherrie was married to husband Ken for nearly 30 years before they decided to go their separate ways.

Together they share daughter Keeley, who they had eight years into their marriage.

In the podcast, the Benidorm actress claimed that she stayed with her husband Ken for 28 years as she didn’t want to upset her daughter.

Addressing the split, Sherrie said: “I’ve never allowed [Keeley] to have any pain or any upset or any hurt.

“It was just so awful because it happened in a really bad way.”

The star went on to heartbreakingly tell that she had to move out of her beloved family home.

Sherrie said: “Also we lived in a beautiful art-deco house in Esher in Surrey and had to leave there.”

She claimed that following the split she sent her ex-beau to Spain, adding that the break-up should’ve happened before it did.

Sherrie added: “I am very practical so all I needed to do was know that I could get him gone, get rid of him.

“I bought an apartment in Spain, so I said, ‘You go there’.

“He went, we stayed here and then we moved,” she explained.

She added: “[The split] should have happened a long time before it happened.”

At the end of last year, the former Loose Women star looked back at her time on the show.

The star claimed the panellists used to have “a lot of freedom” back when she was part of the lineup between 2003 and 2017, while addressing the heated on-air “rows” that often featured.

Sherrie said: “We had the most amazing rows.

“It was all real, it wasn’t put on.

“We had a lot of freedom then but it’s not there now,” she told the Mirror.co.uk.

The Benidorm star also opened up about the close bond she still has with her former co-stars.

Sherrie, who suffered the loss of her brother in 2020, was able to sympathise with Denise Welch when her dad died of pneumonia last year.

She said: “I knew Denise Welch’s dad Vin [who died of pneumonia in September] well. I know what Denise is going through, having lost my brother.”
