Kate Garraway has revealed she is “exhausted and very fretful” as husband Derek is “in and out of hospital”.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, has been sharing updates on Derek’s health for the last two years after he was hospitalised with Covid-19 in March 2020.
In April 2021, Derek was finally released from hospital after 13 months, and now receives round the clock care at their family home.
They share their home with their two children, 17 year old Darcey and 12 year old William, known as Billy.
In her most recent Instagram post, Kate has revealed that she’s been left “exhausted” by Derek’s constant trips in and out of hospital.
She wrote: “So Derek has been in and out of hospital a lot recently.
“Hopefully the wonderful health teams will help him improve but I woke up early feeling exhausted & very fretful.”
Despite this admission, she shared with followers how she was coping.
“As you know my garden is my #happyplace so came out for some #calm and to get stuck in to some weeding and planting,” she wrote.
“It’s been ages since have been able to & I really missed it but nature hasn’t me .
“The flowers are blooming, fruits growing , leaves dancing in the breeze. Am sure there’s a message in there somewhere for how life finds a way , and I certainly feel better for being in amongst it.
“Now to get my hands dirty & get stuck in! #happysundayeveryone and hope you find some joy!”
In April, Kate was overwhelmed with emotion after she met a nurse who cared for her husband while presenting GMB.
Beth Dixon was a guest on the show and had cared for Michael Rosen, who was on the same ward as Derek.
Knowing this, Kate asked her: “I have to ask you on a personal note, because you cared for Michael, and Drek, we’ve now found out, was two beds away. Did you care for him?”
“I would have done, yeah,” answered Beth, who had previously worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital before the pandemic hit.

“God, that is amazing,” Kate replied, visibly very emotional.
“Thank you so much by the way.”
Referring to her time caring for Derek, Beth added: “We tried, we did everything that we could. We put our all into it.”
It was an emotional interview that ended with the pair sharing a hug.
