Joe Swash, 39, has revealed his fiancée Stacey Solomon, 31, was completely clueless about his plans to pop the question to her on Christmas Eve last year. Despite the moment being a wonderful surprise for the Loose Women panellist, her confusion over the moment unfortunately took a morbid turn.
Joe explained his romantic display in the woods near the couple’s old home in Essex almost derailed his proposal.
In a preview clip of Celebrity Juice – which will air on ITV2 tonight – the dad-of-two reveals to the panel that Stacey mistook his floral arrangement for a tribute to someone who had died.
Branding the moment “awkward”, Joe recalled: “To be fair the proposal was a bit awkward as well.
“I thought it would be really nice so I thought I’d do it on Christmas Eve and I took her in to the forest.
“And I got a lady to put a load of flowers out.”
However, Joe’s selection of a white floral bouquet led Stacey to believe that they had been placed their after a funeral.
He divulged: “And when I took her through the forest, she saw the flowers and she went ‘aww I think someone’s died over there.’
“Coz it was all white flowers and I went to her ‘Oh come let’s have a look, pay some respects.'”
Despite the unfortunate blunder, Joe’s efforts paid off as Stacey said yes.
The Dancing on Ice champion got down on one knee during a walk in the woods near their house with Stacey’s two sons from previous relationships, Leighton, eight, Zachary, 12, and their baby Rex, one.
She penned on Instagram at the time: “Sorry for the radio silence… I had everything planned ready to go.
“I knew exactly what I was doing and then… I don’t what to say.”

She continued: “Today we went for a walk in the woods… like we always do.
“But it didn’t look the same.”
Stacey said: “And Joe with our boys, in my favourite place in the world.
“He asked me to marry him and after crying for what felt like a very long time… I said yes.”
Stacey showed fans a video of the beautiful spot, which was covered in flowers.
The star recently confirmed she will be tying the knot with Joe in the garden of their new home, Pickle Cottage.
She informed fans: “So after lots of thinking, wondering, phone calls and then crazy rearranging we were so excited to hear tonight that we can definitely have our wedding ceremony at home.”
She added while discussing their plans: “We are having a little ready minute walking around the garden with the boys thinking where things might be [sic].”
